We're not even really disagreeing here.

Anyway, GarPax and Stan Bowman both left total messes at the United Center. Arturas Karnisovas went to work making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what, and Kyle Davidson has decided to explore new levels of cynicism in hockey.

The Bulls will have the brighter long-term future, that is where I'm placing my bet.
No matter what they were “tanking” next year. They basically did last year without trying. Now you add the Keith recapture penalty of over $5 million and it is inevitable. They were going to have to subtract from the 6th worst team in hockey to get under the cap.

To avoid the rebuild you keep Debrincat, Strome, Kane, Jones, Dach and Hagel and build around them I guess. You will have pay those guys about $37 million probably? Gives you a lot of cap space but you probably haven’t done much to improve a lifeless prospect pool. Maybe in this situation you end up with a high draft pick in next years draft anyways? Kane is 34 next season so 35 when they are realistically doing anything. I just don’t see the logic of it.

The plan is simple. You may not like it but it is a plan. Stockpile draft capital and build the prospect pool while maintaining maximum cap space after the 2023-2024 season. You see what you have coming in prospects and then start building around it through free agency.

Might be a few lean years on the ice, but at least the Hawks won't be doing anything to alienate their fanba.....

This is just dumb. Everyone loves Eddie.

True, for the most part, but when I say 'punt' I mean Davidson is choosing a different route to an intended destination, whereas you have characterized his teardown more as driving aimlessly and hoping to run into success.

I generally don't follow the NBA at all, to the point where I have no idea what you were talking about with the Hinkie stuff, but watched some Bulls last year to check in on Ayo. I would bet on Karnisovas over Davidson simply because he has a track record of success (I think...), and he did put together an entertaining team.

The Hawks have taken the lead in the race for Connor Bedard. A race whose "Suck for Luck" type nickname is obvious, and is a completely separate, unrelated use of the word in question, but you still wouldn't get away with writing it on the internet.

Suck Hard for Bedard!

Fantilli, Carlsson or Michkov will be good consolation prizes though. Danielson seems to have done well on the tank front (the easy part). Should pick up another 1st for the Kane rental. BTW, the Ducks lead. Hawks in 2nd.

The Ducks won last night to go to 19 points, Hawks on 18.

The Ducks have played 3 more games of course.

My angle here is that once they pawn off the greatest players in team history at the deadline (which to be clear they should not have put themselves in the position to do), I am sure ticket demand will crater, and I am going to seize the opportunity to grab some way discounted tickets down by the glass, something I've never done in the NHL.

I had a dream last night that Comcast Sports Net was interviewing Victor Wembanyama and Connor Bedard on the floor of an empty United Center about what it's like being the two hot rookies in town preparing to begin their careers.

I have a diseased brain, fellas.

would prefer he not wear a Ranger sweater, but understand the deal

I will never forget the flight I had back from Buffalo in 2009 (?) when I sat next to a guy who told me for 1.5 hours how lucky we Chicagoans were to get Kane as a Hawk.

At that time I had no idea what he was talking about.

Now I do.

I want whatever team is the most desperate to get him as they would mostly give up the most in return if the Hawks front office plays this right.

Kane controls everything here. He can give Davidson a list of one team (and that's what he's done). The Hawks have zero leverage WRT Kane. The return is going to suck. Oh well.

As a Blues fan I am hoping it is a 2nd round pick ;)

Kane was holding out for the Rangers and everyone knew it. Agree...2nd and 4th rounder is a real nice return with chance for more

The Blues did really well by getting an early jump on the deadline deals. I get that Kane controlled the situation, but it's disappointing nonetheless to only get a 2nd and 4th for a player of Kane's stature, particularly compared to some of the other deals that have already happened this year (seriously Tampa, wut?)

Can't wait to watch the playoffs, particularly in the East. Boston is having an historic season, and yet other teams are trading multiple first- and second-round picks to go all in this year. It will be interesting to watch it all play out.
