just another day on the job: on ASU steal fastbreak, TCU starts flopping well before contact, don't think there is any contact at all and ASU is called for a charge
ASU on a stretch of 0/8and 5 TOs - two on charges

A number of 13 to 16 seed teams have done well in the tournament. Very few real blow outs so far against these lower level teams. Makes you wonder about the big $ NIL this year versus the smaller schools. It seems these lower seeds that do well are playing together as a team.

Arizona St with 3 timeouts and they turn it over. Right after they take 2 contested 3s. Giving the game away

I'm not going to go through and look at the numbers again but I'm confident that Painter's careers at Purdue (wins, conference, titles, tournament appearances, final fours) is totally underwhelming compared to the peak of our program. Which is to say, he hasn't taken Purdue anywhere we haven't already been. So why would I trade him for Underwood? He has done fine for Purdue but he still hasn't taken them to a final four in twenty years. I've said it before, if Underwood only does at Illinois what Painter has done at Purdue, I'd rather find another coach. I want to win a Natty. Winning a Big Ten title once or twice a decade doesn't cut it for me.
Ye of low expectations. 2 B1G titles a decade is not enough for you. We have had 18 in the 117 years since 1906. Lou Henson won 1 in 20 years and his name is on the court.

Not suggesting we trade BU for Painter. But Painter has won the B1G 4 times in the last 14 years. Harry Combes is the only Illinois coach to win it 4 times, ever. Painter has gone to NCAA tourney 14 of 17 years and made the second weekend 6 times, the Elite 8 once. Your expectations are not real, because if we get rid of BU the odds are we are not going to get someone even as good as Painter.

We had a period of 8 years where we played like a blueblood - Kruger won 1 B1G title, Self 2 and Weber 2 in that period - but that is not sustainable long term. If you want to cherry pick the best 8 year period in the 117 year history of Illinois basketball and have that be your standard by which to judge any coach, then don't plan on being a happy fan.

This tourney, other than the Illinois loss has been very entertaining. GO FDU! I generally understand and agree with the consensus opinions on this site concerning players, teams and coaches during the year. But I am admittedly confused about one often stated opinion.

That is the belief that the Big Ten teams suffer in the NCAA's because the Big Ten referees call games very differently then other refs. Yes, every game during the season and post season have differences in ref quality and "fairness." BUT, how does the big ten refereeing differ so dramatically from other conferences?
Seems every ref team makes a similar amount of bad calls on close plays, regardless. Specifically, what is the difference in play calling between Big Ten And NCAA officials? Help me with specific examples, please.

I'll hang up now and listen to your answers.

Not sure if anyone has seen it but Painter's post game presser is great. Obviously, not a fan of Purdue, but he gained a lot of respect with me. Coach was dismissed after he answered the minimum number of questions but he stayed to keep taking questions. After arguably his worst night in his career, staying up there gains some respect for me.

Umm, because they won the B1G this year and everyone was singing Matt Painter praises all year - i.e how he always has successful out of timeout plays, etc. Matt Painter is an excellent coach. Good coaches can lose several games in the tourney, including ones that they should win. His three loses were far worse that BUs and there are people that think we should be looking for a new coach as a result of BU's March loses. Would we do better than Matt Painter?

A lot of excellent coaches lose in the NCAA tourney. To be successful in the tourney is hard. It is a lose and go home deal - only 25% (1 in 4) of the teams get to the second weekend.

Who do you think we should we deserve to be compared to? Kentucky? Cal hadn't won a tourney game in 1400 plus days til today. North Carolina - they aren't even here. Michigan - is Juwan such a better coach because he managed to win a few more games in March the last couple of years.
There you go, arguing the issue with FACTS. Don't you know that facts are not allowed here on Loyalty, and that we thrive on conjecture, fabrication, rumors, fallacies, and bald- faced lies? 🤪

Glad you don't get to make the choice!
