It's amazing how quickly Nate Oats has risen in the coaching world. I guess when you're a superstar coach, it doesn't take that long. I certainly didn't see this coming from his two NCAA Tourney 2nd-round runs with Buffalo.

If Illinois, why not Texas?

Five reasons:

1. Josh > CDC … It’s not even close … Illinois Boosters are WAY easier to deal with than Texas boosters …

2. We are a basketball school … Texas is not … Our facilities are ELITE

3. Sean LOVES being King … Arizona and Xavier … Dude was and is the KING of those universities … They kiss his feet … We would do the same here …

4. He could hire his son here to a Tyler type of role …

5. Texas expects national championships year in and year out … I think we’d all be okay with just getting 2nd weekend consistently with the occasional deeper run and Sean knows he can do that easily here …

If the insider/s are coming out discussing this so brazenly, I think it says something about this being more than mere what if speculation. Whitman must be pissed...

If you were watching the Xavier game over the weekend … You might’ve seen a familiar face …

He was very happy to go watch football today though … The only Bret he’s happy with … iykyk 😉@illini0440

I feel like IF Kentucky and Kansas opened up, Oats would be high on both lists. This is mostly irrelevant to all things Illinois, but any thoughts as to which would be viewed by the coaching community as a better job? I'm just curious since those fanbases like to think of themselves as the best in the nation.

Kansas … At least in my opinion …

Coaches would probably be split …

Oh, Whitman is aware … Brad and his agent go poking around at jobs every year … Last year it was K State (which Whitman understood) and then we gave Brad the bag and now he wants to go flirt with Texas ? In Whitman’s head - he’s given Brad everything he could want … If he’s not happy still then so be it, thanks for everything and good luck wherever you go …
So does this go along with the supposed rumor that Brad isn't happy with the athletic department in some way?

Its been mentioned a couple times in this thread, but there is a realistic scenario where Billy Donovan is unemployed in a couple months. (The key word being 'realistic' as opposed to the usually ridiculous speculation about NBA head coaches leaving during their season for college jobs.)

This was probably his last shot as an NBA head coach so if he decides to go back to college instead of being an NBA assistant that's a bomb dropping into the entire coaching carousel.

IF both UK and KU open up, Oats probably takes Kansas if the money is astronomical. And Kentucky goes after Musselman. JMHO.

I wouldn’t say he’s thrilled … And it’s not just the athletic department … Boosters … and other factors I won’t get into on here until the dust settles on this whole thing … If Brad does wind up staying … I’d like to keep some things private …

Miller is a better coach … He also is a better recruiter …

I think Miller would keep 1 of TA or Chester … Geoff would not be retained … Cohen would come with him …
Miller is pretty clearly the better coach, plus he's 5 years younger.

I would prefer that BU stay and find a strong bench coach to help him with player development and game strategy; as we have seen, we could end up with someone worse. Having said that, if we would somehow end up with Miller out of that transition....home run just begins to describe the impact

It sure sounds like it's 50/50 whether he stays or not--regardless if he gets the Texas gig. Crazy times!
