The question was who came in as a freshman and developed. He's clearly an example in three years, but I was thinking thinking of a 4 year player which is why I added the if he comes back part.

Was literally just talking about running into him in Iowa City. Super gracious kid and worked his butt off here. I hope he finds a great opportunity out there, best of luck Brandon!

You need 128 credits for your degree. Assuming he started summer semester and took maximum allowed hours each semester he’d have 135 hours at the end of this semester.

I'm not sure how good of a case you can make that Griffin took a step forward at Syracuse. He got more minutes, but his shooting %'s dropped, and he was significantly less efficient.
The other two stepped out of power 5 competition. How much of their improvement was getting better and how much of it was playing an easier schedule/playing more minutes? It's hard to say, but it is definitely some mixture of the two.

Jones - Low major(had multiple violation of team rules situations)

Podz -Mid major(got recruited over with Skyy)

Griffin - Played what, one season, at Syracuse? Wasn't he coming back to visit BU during games?

Miller - Middling at best

Losing Podz, in hindsight, hurt. At the time, the board was ablaze with Skyy committing and starting. Podz leaving was the "hate to seem you go, but..." train of thought. Revisionist history.

The idea with Podz is that Goode had been penciled in over him and then Goode got hurt.

If he had a time machine, Podz would have gotten the playing time he wanted at Illinois, but alas.

Hard to argue with his decision given how it panned out for him.

Remember when a kid developed and by his senior year might not be a starter, but a valuable contributor minutes wise?

when a kid developed and by his senior year might not be a
starter, but a valuable contributor minutes wise? Will that ever happen again?
Who were those kids at Illinois?

Warren Carter is the first name that springs to mind of someone who was a non-contributor for three years then suddenly a key guy.

I agree 100%. I think that, at the time, the right move was made for all involved. Can't forecast a season altering injury nor a complete player meltdown. With Podz, if you know that that clock is ticking heading into your sophomore year and PT doesn't look to be there...he had to do what he had to do.

This situation, by itself, is the perils of the portal and NIL. Easy come, easy go.

Oh, I'm very familiar with Ayo's development. Very.

But the post to which you originally responded (#230 by doowink) was answering a question posed by Calvin in post #228, asking "...how many guys who've left under BU made a significant step forward at their new destination?"

So doowink's reply made sense since Podz indeed flourished elsewhere after departing UI.

Your reply "And Ayo" is an excellent example REBUTTING Calvin's question, not supporting the Podz example.

Squirrels, Cats. Both four legged, both furry, both have tails. Both deal with nuts -the former eat them, the latter are them at times. (Said as a proud cat guardian)

And I'm done hijacking this thread. (Apologies to others accordingly.)

Edited addition: Just saw Nuke's later reply so see we're all on the same page. Hope your Advil works.

I stand corrected, and I'll change my answer to Jaylon Tate as the last one that I remember as a non-starter.
