Because he is a bucket getter? Trent was a defensive liabilty as a freshman but he could score. He worked hard and became an outstanding defender. Maybe the staff saw that potential in Epps. I honestly don’t the know the. answer. Just a guess on my end.
He is also very quick. If he has the will, he can play defense.
Was curious about UConn because didn’t think Newton was considered a true PG but more of a combo guard. He averaged 4.7 assists per game as did Jackson. We had 70% the assists that UConn did. Some of that was obviously our .308 3pt shooting but also could be some of the reason for the lousy shooting. Passing in total was lousy last year, it wasn’t a coincidence that the 2004-5 team that shot well was also a great passing team. Hoping Ty to be our Jackson next year.

Probably a Big Ten Championship, BTT Championship, and tournanent wins.
Put me in a camp that doesn’t really care about the BTT Championship unless there are serious seeding implications. Playing three (or more) games in as many days seems like a dumb schedule a week before the NCAA’s. I’d rather they cut back on the regular season schedule and spread out the BTT so it was more like an NCAA pod feel.

I'd pay Epps more than Shannon to play for us next year.

That's not what the marketplace currently says, I know. The marketplace also once said you should be paying tens of thousands of dollars for pictures of cartoon apes.
This is insane though. Yes, Epps has a bunch of years left. Yes, Epps has a decent scoring game that will only get better over the years. But he also is unplayable on defense as an on ball defender at times and doesn't switch or rotate correctly. Also appears to be un-coachable on offense in terms of running the offense and getting into sets.

Shannon could be the best player in the BIG next year.

TSJ is very good and could be preseason player of the year. However, he may not even be our teams best player next year. I would not be shocked at all to see Hawk have an amazing season. While he drove me nuts at the start of the season. Hawk showed me a lot to be very optimistic about later in the season with shot selection, being aggressive and in all phases. I like the ceiling Hawk has if he gets rolling.

To be clear I would project Shannon at a higher value than Epps for next season.

But by less of a margin than the difference between them this season, with Epps now having experience under his belt. And I don't think the difference between them this season was quite as night-and-day as is being made out. Shannon was often pretty inefficient, and if he gets graded on a curve because of how often he was put in unfavorable circumstances where he had to make everything happen alone (undeniably true), then why doesn't Epps benefit from the same curve?

A freshman was sloppy, mistake-prone, and not as committed or intense as necessary on defense. What the heck else is new, and since when is that looked at as a permanent problem?

I dunno. We will get answers to these questions at Georgetown, best of luck to the kid.

I’m on board with you. Guy was talked about as a Frank Mason clone early on. Sucks he didn’t want to put in the work here, but the second game at Wisconsin and the Texas game showed me enough to know he’s a player.

And he was the majority of the reason they lost to a 16 seed … Young and inexperienced guard play doesn’t win big games in March …

So why would Brad run a freshman out there again when his veterans said if you do that then we’re not coming back ?

This isn’t hard guys … We’re bringing in a VETERAN PG … DGL will ride the freaking pine if he can’t guard … Brad does not care whether the kid stays or goes … He will replace him if he leaves and will coach him if he stays but next year Brad’s focus will not be on DGL …
Playing time doesn't equate to remaining with the team. If so, RJ would still be on the team and there are many other examples.

Epps can be a productive scorer at times, but a pretty small 2 guard and certainly not a PG., erratic from 3, and needs a lot of work on D.
Wished he would have stayed to develop here, but wish him the best.
He might end up being pretty effective player.
