I’m predicting this is our squad for next year:

PG- DGL
SG- Domask
SF- Goode
PF- Hawkins
C- Dainja

Bench- Rodgers, Hansberry, Harmon, Moretti, Harris

A lot depends on DGL being able to play a minutes right away. Even if you get a low to mid major PG or JUCO to come in I don’t see the ceiling being raised much. Gonna need Goode/Domask to each shoot 37+% from 3, Dainja to be a consistent low post scorer, Hawkins to be a rim protector. Harris to be a lock down defender. Rodgers to improve all facets. A collection of role players coming together to be greater than the sum of their parts which was the opposite of this past year.

I think we will struggle athletically playing Goode/Dainja/Domask together. Hawkins will need to cover up ALOT which he’s capable of if his mind is to it.
yes, we need all respect on dgl

Ah the internet, whose binary nature seems to prevent users ability to accept that 2 facts can be true at the same time. Recent examples:
Epps had decent success, has even more potential, and will likely develop into a very nice player (Why we're pissed he didn't work out here)
and
Epps was put in a bad position as a Fr, wasn't up to the task defensively (which is why he got schooled a lot at that end), and turned out to not be as coachable as needed (Why coach didn't see his $ demands lining up with his value)

or
DGL is an exciting player who is motivated to prove the doubters wrong by earning court time (Why we recruited him)
and
DGL is undersized (bulk) to play D in this league and hasn't had to play much D (did his league this year even play D?) who will be playing for a coach who has just watched 2 Fr PGs flame out by being pushed into the fire before they were ready (He's not going to watch that movie a 3rd time)
True this.

I just can't fathom the DGL redshirt talk.

And I still find that absurd. Risking losing your best player to pay another player who underperformed in 80% of his position’s jobs, just to MAYBE keep him all 4 years where he MAYBE becomes a better all around player is crazy. And nothing is stopping him from transferring the next year, or are you gonna offer him even MORE money after that?
Well there are two pieces to it.

1. I don't think there's a night-and-day gulf between 2024 Epps and 2024 Shannon. I may be wrong. But I just thought Epps was hugely promising this year warts and all.

2. I guess even in this moment I'd look at retaining a player as something like restricted free agency in the pros? Where by keeping him you at least get the right to match other offers for the next season.

At the end of the day I think Epps and his camp and BU and his staff just didn't feel like they could work productively together anymore. I respect that. I think both parties will have success in the future, and I would be very excited by getting Shannon back to be clear.

This is no place for well-balanced rational thought. THIS IS LOYALTY RECRUITING!

Dip your nuggets in my staff source sauce.
I'd pay Epps more than Shannon to play for us next year.

That's not what the marketplace currently says, I know. The marketplace also once said you should be paying tens of thousands of dollars for pictures of cartoon apes.
I might pay Epps the player with his eligibility, but never Epps the guy who obviously checked out in the middle of the season and pouted on the bench during the middle of a great comeback win.

1. That’s just a wait and see, obviously no one knows and I can respect that take as I do think Epps has potential, just not nearly as much as you believe. I personally thing TSJ has better odds of being NPOY with a vet PG in 24 than Epps has of even matching 23 TSJ.

2. You’re not wrong, I’d just much rather have players that want to play for our school and the money, and not just for the money. Completely different mindsets and the second mindset isn’t winning any championships.

Last point I completely agree and think there’s a likely scenario where both parties are totally better off without each other.

Brings up a question I've wanted to ask for a while. Feel free, of course, to ignore, lie, deflect or whatever. Do you, Lville, 0440, and DB11 know one another or, at least, who each other is? Just curious.

To show I'm not above a bit of insider tarot card reading, I recall an offhand remark about the recent Coaches v. Cancer get together starting some NIL conversations?

Perhaps the Illini Money Cannon is about to be upgraded to a bigger and more powerful model?

I do agree with this on defense. However Harris was only 160lbs. Walker from MSU is only 180. Offensively speed and quickness seems to matter more and more when offense from the PG position. So many very good offensively gifted college guards are small or skinny in stature. Id love the transfer from North Texas that was player of the year in conference USA.
Tylor Perry, his final 12 is Baylor, Florida, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Louisville, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Creighton, Minnesota, Stanford, and Oklahoma State.

Any chance DGL redshirts? I don't see a path to mins for him if you bring back TSJ and get a vet PG, as well as Harmon/Harris.
If you show me someone on this team who has his talent and aggressiveness I will listen to you, if not you're just talking to yourself
