I will never forget watching that game. Freshman year, I watched with my roommate who was a huge OSU fan. That drive gave him some perspective on how the other 99% of college football fans normally live.

Airbnb booked for PSU game! Hotel prices were, as always, comparatively outrageous.
Also, last year for the Purdue game I didn’t see beer vendors in Grange Grove … if my wife, parents and I are just walking around, will we be able to buy a beer and drink it in Grange Grove??

The key to hotels is using points if you have them. Hyatt is available for a reasonable number, the Holiday Inn, etc. It doesn’t always work, but I’ve used a free annual fee night at the Holiday Inn the last few years for a hotel room listed for $400 (which, as you mentioned, is absolutely ridiculous).

We've been discussing the Toledo game off-and-on in this thread and the fear about kicking things off with the best MAC team. I'm still skittish about the game and any win will be satisfying, but I will add the following: Illinois has a bunch of schedule advantages after that game.
(1) One extra day of rest/prep compared to Penn State
(2) FAU has to play Clemson the week before Illinois
(3) Purdue will be playing Illinois in the middle of the toughest part of their schedule. They have @VT, Syracuse, and Wisconsin before Illinois, then @Iowa and Ohio State after. That's a gross schedule.
(4) One extra day of rest/prep compared to Maryland
(5) Wisconsin will be playing Illinois in between Iowa and Ohio State
(6) Get a bye before playing Minnesota
(7) Play Indiana late in the year and after they play @Michigan, Rutgers, @Penn State, & Wisconsin in the previous four weeks. Will Allen still be the head coach?
(8) Northwestern in the last week, as always. Getting Northwestern at the end of the year is going to be finally feel like an advantage after years of fired coaches or no bowl possibility sapping our team's motivation. The roles will (hopefully) be reversed.
Three games with extra rest compared to the opponent, a bye before an important West rival, and playing Indiana and Northwestern late in the year are some valuable schedule boosts.

Just to keep the conversation going, I'm with you on all points, but I wondered if FAU playing Clemson could help them in the experience/confidence factor if they have a good showing. Sure they could get beat up and have a tough week of recovery, but could go either way. I do think the fellas tcb though no matter the context of the previous week.
There are teams on our schedule I would be much more upset about losing to than Toledo. MAC teams are always good for a upset now and then over P5. Look at Minnesota 2021, a shockingly competitive game vs Ohio State week 1and then they lost to Bowling Green 2 weeks later and still won 9 games that year. Losing to a MAC frontrunner in week 1 would be disappointing as heck but I wouldn't say the season is over so early.
