The terrible Newton targeting call gave all the mojo to bucky...........He made contact with his hands to the chest of the QB and then his helmet barely touched the QB.........

The timeout management was horrendous.....I thought so when we called time out early in the third quarter that it might be a problem later on.........

The next to last TD by bucky was a plum interception chance or at least bat it down.......

This loss has taken the wind out of my sails , for sure.........Not that we lost , but the way we did it........If we could of stopped the bucky RB on that 12 yard run before he got the 1st down would have made it 4th down and they probably go for the tying FG......

Oh well , now we are 3-5 with a bye week......road games coming up and Johnny N. will miss the first half of the next game........

Illini FB......................You are really a fanatic if you live and die by it.......Alas , I am guilty of such fanaticism....I really really am..........

I hurt all over ............I really really do..........Everything is fine ..................Goodnight sweet Illini fanatics........................
Well said Pru. I’m right there with you.

Haven't read all the comments but why did the deep safety wait for the ball when he had the angle and positon to step in and intercept. The Wisky WR did the right thing in running in fron to him for the catch. But our safety who was deep was in better position to intercept it. That to me would have given us the game.
We will never know the answer to this question. We all saw that throw go up, and think it’s a sure int, at worst, it’s going to be broken up. Anything but a touchdown.

I think maybe at the end he took his eyes off the ball and was watching the receiver. Never should have taken his eyes off the ball and just went up and got it.

Absolute loser stuff today. Maybe the warning sign isn’t what they’re doing this year with a diminished roster but instead it was how they choked away the season last year with a ton of NFL talent and a baby-soft schedule? Find someone who loves you as much as Bert loves to play not to lose, I guess.

That was a gut punch, but it was fun for a while. Crowd was big and loud, and was trying to will the team to hang on in the end. Disappointed to see so many "I can't believe I wasted my time watching this" and time for basketball posts here from our "fans".Those people will be posting in the pregame thread for our next home game about how our crowds are small and quiet or whatever. We've fielded way worse teams than this over the years..

Epic bed wetting. I shouldn't be stunned based on history, but I still am.

I get the angst over the Newton call. I really do, and it messed up the game. But it was the right call. Even Newton knew it.
Yep and not really a hard call. I don't want to go back to calls for banning football entirely.

Officials weren't great but Illinois was worse. Wisconsin just ever so slightly better. B1G football isn't great football beyond a few teams.

When Illinois refuses to throw passes beyond 10-yards, they rarely win and will never beat a better than average team.

I did something similar in High School. Pass had enough air under it. Defender was there waiting for it to come down. I'm coming from the side full speed. Went up in front of him and caught it. He actually didn't even know that I was going to be in the play.

Luke needs to learn to throw it away when it ain’t there … And also when it’s 5 seconds left … Sling. The. Dang. Ball.
They've got him playing scared $hitless. He wasn't like this at the start of the season.

The more coaching he gets the longer he holds onto the ball. Send him back to Kiffin for a few weeks to get him straightened out.

The thing about the targeting call was the official called roughing the passer first, even though the quarterback still had the ball. Newton looked like he had knocked the ball loose before he made contact.

There was also a grounding call they missed in that 4th quarter. The qb was still in the pocket and there was no receiver within 15-20 yards of the throw.
On the radio they said qb was not under any duress thus not grounding. New one on me but must be part of the rule.

Was at the game of course and certainly agree with the comments regarding the refs. Simply needed to score more than 7 points in the second half but I disagree with the anti Bert comments. Wisconsin has been recruiting at a different level than us for a long time. The fact that we are on par with them this early in Bielema’s tenure is remarkable.

I think Altmyer and Feagan are going to provide a lot of exciting offense over the years. This loss sucks but we’re on the right track.

If recruiting rankings are what wins ball games, Illinois will never move up from the bottom rung of the Big Ten.

He should be … He got ZERO explanation from that white hat … It’s an absolute joke … And it’s not just the Newton call … Its every week … And the responses he gets back to inquiries are laughable … I wish I could share them without getting in trouble … But you don’t see this in the SEC … And if the Big Ten is gonna be this “power conference” … They better get it tightened up …

And NONE of that excuses how we finished that game … Thats ultimately on our staff and on our players … But the refs certainly didn’t officiate the game correctly and that had an impact on the outcome of the game and there’s no denying that …
Blaming losses on officials is a tiresome exercise. This was on the coaches and players, plain and simple.

I was there too. It was a fine afternoon and we were in it all along. There were frustrations but it was watchable to the end. I really didn’t see why the intentional grounding call was rescinded. That’s life I guess. Just no more blowouts or repeated self-inflicted wounds please and I’m patient. We’re making progress.

True, but it comes with a massive, massive caveat, no team in this modern Transfer Portal Era has a bigger change in offense than Wisconsin. Wisconsin gone from the most Big Ten offense ever last year to an Air Raid this year. At least, TCU and USC from last year ran similar systems in this past and Colorado just brought in an entire new roster.

I was at the game. Have been to many but will no longer be going until our coaches decide to stop laying not to lose and are ,ore agressive to try to win the game. Even when we win we are holding on for dear life. We are so conservative it is physically painful to watch and the ending is inevitable. We are hoping at the end of the game for dear life for the other team to screw up instead of taking the game. When we were winning 21-7 I knew this would come down to then end because our staff will alway turtle it and play scared. I would rather go down trying to be aggressive than Alway being back on our heels. This is it for me…I’m done wasting time and money on this until something on the offensive side of the ball changes.

This was a game where the offense was non existent at times and the defense disappeared at times. A frustrating, disappointing and aggravating game that epitomized the agony of defeat.
