Iowa 15, Illinois 13, Postgame

Drop passes hurt us today
We were decent on penalties
I am still struggling understanding what PI is. Seems like it changes week from week. Also the inconsistency to review plays. Adopt the NFL rules coaches need to challenge unless it is a scoring play or turnover

Biggest reason why we lost is we thought our 4 point lead was good enough. If we would had made the 52 yd fg to end the half and we’re up 7 I would have understood a little more. We have to play to win not lose

I don't like this take. We've been bad for so long. Getting sucked in is a nice change instead of games not being worth watching
100% this was a super fun game to watch. Iowa has a very good defense and we really dominated a lot of this game. I want us to get better, but I always felt for football being competitive is really all I can ask. Win 9-10 games ever 5 years or so, and you have something

Again, another frustrating and disappointing loss.
Quite a few of those this season. Hope they don’t lay an egg against NW.

I thought I saw a stat earlier this season that Illinois had lost seven games under Bielema that they had the lead in the fourth quarter, if I’m remembering correctly. This would make at least eight

I’ve seen stats like that somewhere too. Just remember this: these would have games we would not have even had the lead in prior to Bielema’s tenure.

And the IW spot short of the first down. Had to settle for a field goal that drive and might have been more with a fresh set of downs
I never saw a clean shot of that. I saw pellets fly out of bounds but couldn't see the sidelines. A good angle would've been nice because it appeared he had it. That said Paddock spun and had he dove he would've had it easily

Played well for about 50 minutes this game. We are progressing as a program.

Why continue to try to throw passes in the flat when every one is getting batted down? Dumb.

Plain and simple though, we need better defensive players. If Henry can’t recruit better than this, why have him as the coordinator? Should we have given it to Kane? Especially in the first half we rushed three and still couldn’t cover guys. Not good enough in the back end by a country mile and the man to man scheme does not fit the lack of DB talent. And I know we have injuries but everybody does.

The Wisconsin loss was a total killer.

It really hurts to lose this game but the gnashing of teeth seems strange. This is literally what Iowa has done to everyone all season long. They play tight, low scoring games, that come down to wire. It's what they do and it's why they are so hard to beat unless you have a significant talent advantage.

Basically a more sensible version of what I wrote in my first post.
