I think we avoid the letdown since only two of our players played well enough to be in danger of a letdown. And those two are old enough to not fall for the letdown--at least from the sound of their postgame interviews. The rest of the team should still be hungry to improve and contribute.

We lost games because of what color uniform was worn?

Yes! It’s all about Attitude.

Why do ‘lucky’ rabbit’s feet ‘work’? Because you believe they will.

Why do some guys never wash their ‘lucky’ T-shirts (until they lose a game)? Because they had success wearing them and don’t want to change their luck.

Why do some uni’s ‘not work’? Because you believe they will bring you defeat... or at least keep you from being your best.

The Answer: Players learn to love ‘the Illini Blue’ and believe they are invincible in them. That will get it done.

DON’T see ‘That Other’ kind of Blue in them. That’s bad blue. Make Illini Blue your own.

I just asked a question. Thought there was something rational I was missing. /s

Illinois has also performed poorly in buildings not named State Farm Center or Madison Square Garden but no one has recommended bringing a sign for road trips.

I’m sure this won’t go over well, but, IMO the UI/UT game outcome will come down to foul calls. Whichever team can handle the bad calls and how the officials call the game to their advantage will win. I hope I’m wrong but I could see this game turning ugly and players like Hawkins loosing his composure. And even UT instigating this to some degree. Loud angry crowds do affect the way officials call the game. And when defense is stiff the best way to score is shoot free throws

Not sure how to take this
I couldn't find the exact gif I wanted haha. Just a "cart way before the horse" type of comment. I'd love to see it but A LOT would have to go right, not just the games we participate in, for us to get to number 1 at any point this season, let alone in early January.

… if we win @Tennessee and then win all of our games up until January 5th.. We would be 12-1. Let’s take a look at some other teams schedules, shall we?

Arizona: vs Wisconsin, @Purdue, vs Alabama, Vs FAU, Vs Colorado

Kansas: vs Mizzou, @Indiana

Houston: vs Texas A&M

Purdue: vs Alabama, vs Arizona, @Maryland

UConn: @Gonzaga, Seton Hall, St John’s, @Butler

Baylor: @MSU, @Duke,

Gonzaga: @Washington, Vs UConn, Vs SDSU

Marquette: Vs Creighton, @Providence,

UNC: @Kentucky, @Oklahoma, @Pitt, @Clemson

Creighton: Vs Alabama, vs Nova, @Marquette

Texas lost last night, CO State plays St Mary’s & New Mexico in that stretch, Miami plays Clemson & Colorado…

Lots of these teams will lose games no matter what… there could be a few more upsets… if we get out of Mackey at 13-1, there may only be 2-3 other teams that have a similar record or resume.. not entirely out of the question for us to jump to the #1 spot…. But think how you want 🤷🏻‍♂️

Most likely it’s us, Kansas, Houston for #1. Voters loves recent results and there wouldn’t be a better win nationally than @Purdue. On top of wins over FAU, Tennessee, #1 in B1G & a 11 game win streak…
Would need Purdue to beat Bama and Zona along with others picking up losses.

Where's that dislike button? I think there is a fair chance that this fearful thought will prove accurate, but hope not.

This is the game where we really get to see the difference between this year's squad and last year's. Last year, we won a big game in the Garden against a ranked opponent and followed it up with a truly hideous performance on Saturday morning. Let's not repeat what we did last year. We're older. The vibes seem way better. Let's show it by coming out firing from the jump and collecting another huge win.
There really are some deep scars from last year. Maybe we deserve some good fortune this year?

I think this next game will go a long way in answering some questions that a lot of people have about this team. FAU was great but as we know it is a Long season. A lot can happen. I like the positivity here. That is for sure. The thing that I am enjoying is that this program's stock is on the upswing. The main thing that concerns me is not the point guard issue or 3 point shooting or any of that. For me, it comes down to how this team handles success?
I think sucess for this team = big ten championship and long run in NCAA tornament,as in this will define a good season in players eyes.Team seems to be just getting started.ILL

You'd think that an off-the-shelf "cart before horse" GIF would be a no brainier. Apparently not. However, we can use this one to illustrate what will happen if we, for example, beat Tennessee and Miznoz and then lose to Northwestern, in terms of that tantalizing post-Purdue #1 ranking.

Bonus: it's a GIF of Sooner ineptitude. Hope no one was injured in its production.

Good thing there's a whole week off after Coleman's birthday on Sunday.

Correct.

We win Saturday, we’re somewhere in the 10-12 range come Monday.

Purdue has to beat Zona, Houston & Kansas have to get upset.. and the rest of the top 10 all have multiple tough tests and/or play someone within the top 10…. We keep winning, potentially beat a #1/2/3 ranked Purdue at Mackey… and we find ourselves probably 10% chance being #1, with a high likelihood of being in the top 4 and definitely top 5…. Just something fun to think about. Think the TSJ POY convo really gets taken seriously as well…. Just trying to bring some optimism while we can still have it! We all know this board can be a roller coaster. Go Illini.
