In theory, Florida Atlantic shouldn’t lose another regular season game. Of course, they also shouldn’t have lost to Bryant, so… 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s unlikely we make the top 10 before the Purdue game with the lack of games this week. Our best chance is Creighton beating Marquette which is definitely possible.

College basketball world doesn’t like Illini basketball. We never get respect. We have to take it. Just goes along with being an Illini.
Exactly…
and when we do “take it” we’ll finally be that team that gets the benefit of the doubt even when we don’t 100% deserve it…lol…either out of recency bias like FAU. Or better yet…
Maybe one day we’ll have that brand recognition/be a basketball household name… but that’s gonna take some consistency for a while obviously…not a Duke or Kentucky per se…more of a Baylor or an Arizona type of program.

Even if we can’t pull off the win in West Lafayette…. I think a 8-1 January is very much on the table.

18-3 going into February and we’re not only in the top 10, but firmly in the #1 or #2 seed discussion. As well as at worst tied for #1 in the B1G. Let’s just keep it rolling fellas.

Easy tiger, one game at a time. I think it’s more likely we win at Purdue than go 8-0 in the other games (as much as I’d love to see it). I’m optimistic about this season too, but the only game in January that I think is close to a sure thing is at home vs Rutgers. The rest are all losable if we have an off night, and we may not be favored @NW and @OSU.

Rankings are fun to look at but it's hard to put much of any level of seriousness into them. Ranking FAU 4 spots above us after losing to us on a neutral court and also losing to Bryant while ranking them below a team they just beat is some high comedy.

I mean, we had it circa 2006 … probably kept it as late as 2010 even! We have earned a lot of brand respect back, but we need to be seen by the whole country on CBS playing in the Elite Eight or so to take that next step! I think this is the year.

Does he know what a buffoon he is? You could use this graph in a statics course as an example of "outlier." There's really nothing wrong with that, perhaps one way of demonstraring an independent mind. He's definitely not following the pack. On the other hand, he's sort of just wandering ouit in the woods alone. I think it's just hilarious.
I'm sure how knows how much traffic it generates to his Twitter account and the News & Observer website from our fan base...

I certainly think we a pay A LOT more attention to Illinois' ranking than the people ranking us. I really really dont think voters have it out for us amymore than they do any other team. They have their list, they adjust based on a big win or loss, then just keep the rest of the teams on the same train.

I think this is correct. Illinois needs to get back to being on the level of Arizona, MSU, Baylor, or like Houston level. We will never be Duke, UNC ect, but we can be seen as a perennial top 10 type of team. That takes getting out of the first weekend as goal number 1.

Personally, I like this ranking. Why? Guys like the Illini have are veterans who know it is better to play with a chip on your shoulder and feel a lack of respect. There are several teams ranked ahead of the Illini that have some doubt when they take the court. Kansas, Marquette, FAU and Tenn. are three that know they require a little bit of luck if asked to play the Illini with the season on the line. Much better to take the court feeling you need to prove yourself than that you have proven yourself. Especially when you can't wait for tomorrow because you will be better than today.
