Another thing RE: hostile fans on the road, does anyone think this will maintain the same steam at a constant rate? Perhaps an initial huge blowback, then a lull and then pick up again around his hearing? Perhaps just constant hate? Perhaps the first few games are really rough and by March it's not QUITE as bad? Either way, these are our games away from Champaign:

Wednesday 1/24 at Northwestern ... at least there will be tons of Illini fans!
Tuesday 1/30 at Ohio State ... their attendance sucks.
Saturday 2/10 at Michigan State ... likely pretty brutal.
Saturday 2/17 at Maryland ... likely bordering on dangerous.
Wednesday 2/21 at Penn State ... their attendance REALLY sucks.
Saturday 3/2 at Wisconsin ... very brutal if things remain at the same level.
Sunday 3/10 at Iowa ... I'll be at this one and I'M nervous, so yeah...
Thursday 3/14-Sunday 3/17 BTT in Minneapolis ... pretty much an away game given Illini fans alone will be a small minority at any one time (until we make the championship!)
People in our society has historically bad attention spans. I expect as the season goes on, fans what even remember what they were booing about in the first place.

Million dollar question. Does the University now go back and try to redo this by checking all the needed boxes?

As to the fan reaction on the road, I think a lot will depend on what further information comes out. To that, it will be interesting to see if the legal team has a PR angle to this whole thing.

From the previous thread @Illini034. I had the same thought that since Josh is a really, really smart lawyer, that maybe this is how he hoped it would turn out. In the 50+ years I’ve been an Illini fan, Josh is my favorite AD, and I’ve thought he has been fantastic in almost everything he’s done until now. I believe he originally had good intentions with his three person panel, but after TSJ realized his process is flawed, and now he’s going to have to revamp his three person panel concept to include a true element of fairness…

Not in Evanston
Sidenote, we NEED to get as many Illini fans as possible in Evanston next week. It's always at least 50/50, but our Chicago Area Illini really need to get out and support Terrence. That will be his first road game, and it would be nice to ease him back into that pressure with an arena stocked full of orange. The game is sold out, so get on StubHub, people!

My mother in law is coming into town a night early to watch the newborn so that the wife and I can make the trip up to Evanston that night. We were going to skip this year due to a baby that is barely a month old, but I legitimately feel like it is simply the right thing to do to get two more orange shirts in that arena.

I-L-L.

P.S. Also, my mother in law is an excellent babysitter who is constantly asking if we can go get dinner or lunch so she can spend time with the little guy, so I don't feel too bad! 😁

I think that's easier said than done. The judge's ruling makes it clear that the policy is bunk, basically, and that she believes the conduct panel railroaded him. If they followed the letter of the policy, then the policy is unenforceable and they need to write a new one in a hurry that affords the necessary protections.

No one throws the future of their basketball program into the hands of a randomly selected judge.

I think the three person panel needs more info to act. Unless they feel like they have the full evidence, they're not going to act. I don't see the university putting a policy in place that would just automatically keep someone on the team with a presumption of innocence. That's just not where we're at right now in society and at a university level it wouldn't fly.

I think JW is an awesome AD, and I’m sure he was a good baby lawyer for the 1-2 years he practiced in DC at performing the junior level legal tasks he was assigned, but the view by many on here that because he has a law degree and practiced for less than 2 years (I think?) that he is some master legal mind that outmaneuvers the legal world is the stuff of a John Grisham book.

I doubt the university knows what's its going to do at this point in time since the decision just came out today. A lot to digest. Of course they can try to suspend him again under a different process than the one they used which is probably the way they'd proceed rather than try to move to reconsider or appeal the courts decision. But there's a lot to digest and consider. I'm just going to enjoy ILL basketball and be prepared for anything that may come. That TRO was a hail Mary. Pretty impressive win
If you look at the school's press release....I think it's game on for TJ. School doesn't look to be contesting it?

Not a lawyer. And please correct me if I’m wrong.

But IMO the three person panel was the part of the process that should be under strutiny here.

No problem with Whitman, no problem with the policy, but the panel is the actual deciding body on what discipline should be administered. Therefore it is on that panel to provide due process and make an informed, fair decision.

Anytime someone is given consequences, it is of paramount importance that they were given due process. That often includes a hearing where they are allowed to have legal representation with them.

Going for the first time, wife got tix as an anniversary gift last week (year of hardwood lol). I was excited regardless but was not anticipating this with all the 1% chance of being granted talk.

My understanding is that the judge ruled that the OSCR procedures look reasonable, while the DIA ones likely are insufficient. UIUC could presumably re-work the DIA procedures to be more like the OSCR ones, but then why have them?

And it's one thing to fight to try to enforce their existing policy as it was written, but the optics aren't great if they continue to maneuver and tweak policies to try to suspend him again. If new evidence comes to light, maybe that will change, but as things stand right now, how far does the university really want to take this at the cost of discouraging future prospective students/atheletes?

Why are you so bitter? In fact perhaps there was a window left open so a player would be able to do what Shannon did and that is take the matter to court and be reinstated.

Going to the Northwestern game on Wednesday. Serious question, can we buy TSJ jerseys at the stadium? My wife said she wants to rock one.
Hey saw your post go to Gameday Spirit
