Since no new TSJ thread, I will post this here. What will probably be a common (and negative) take on TSJ playing by the sports media.

In all seriousness it’s mind boggling to me that Brad Underwood hasn’t been coach of the year in the B10 yet.
I would have to think you'd give him the nod over Gard this year given the whole enchilada of this season.
We will see how it plays out but I think they have up be 1a) and 1b) at this point.

The Perrish podcast tonight is pretty pointed. To be fair Norlander tried to keep it to info available only but likely to reflect a common sentiment.

Lot of nastiness out there from opposing fanbases and reporters online. Gonna have to get used to that, will only bring the team closer together

I'm not surprised. I like that podcast, but Parrish is clearly someone I disagree with in the political realm, which sort of relates to this situation, albeit in a complex way.

Norlander does a better job at keeping his political slant out of the podcast.

Topic aside, I hate hate HATE sports personalities who feel they have to talk fast and/or loud to be that “sports announcer guy.” Makes me really appreciate Werner, the IlliniGuys, Tate, Steve Kelly, et al.

The good(and bad) thing about society is that people have very, very short memories and attention span. This is going to suck for him for about a month for a handle of road games. Then, it'll be on to the next big story.

These kids from every team put up with so much abuse from other team's students under any circumstance. They tune it out and the really good ones use it as fuel and it can tighten the team bond. The REALLY good ones take pleasure in making 15,000 - 20,000 people sit down and shut their mouths.

I'm sure he's more than than prepared for it.

Putting this on here. Truly disgusted by these two and their views about the TSJ situation and how critical Parrish was on Underwood playing him today. He seems to think that Underwood could've chosen to not play him. Lost a ton of respect for Gary Parrish

I’d put this in the TJ thread, but there doesn’t appear to be a new one just yet… On subjective matters, it’s important to consider opposing opinions without bias or vitriol. At a macro-level, that’s why the culture of American politics is so jacked up: people refuse to look on the other side of the aisle and therefore fail to grow or refine their belief systems, which is not only unproductive but quite dangerous. In this matter, I think Parrish makes some valid points. There’s a legitimate argument to be made that despite the judges ruling, TJ shouldn’t necessarily be playing considering he’s still formally charged. As Norlander points out (and discussed here) there is a strong likelihood the DIA is privy to information that supports TJ’s claim to innocence, or that this incident is entirely fabricated BS…otherwise this would be a wildly ill-advised decision.

Now, if Josh and Brad genuinely believe the charge is either going to be dropped or TJ will be found not guilty, it of course makes more sense why he’s playing. At the same time, Parrish doesn’t think the suspension/TJ not playing is what’s causing irreparable harm. He argues it’s the charge itself that’s causing irreparable harm to current & future earnings. which I think is valid & true…but aside from the charge, I think there’s also a valid argument to be made that holding out TJ from playing does indeed negatively impact his draft stock and therefore would also cause irreparable harm. Like, if TJ goes bonkers in the tourney and leads the Illini to a final 4, that would certainly solidly his place in the 1st round and increase his draft stock…perhaps even push him into the late lottery if he really explodes in March. That’s a sizeable difference in amount of potential earnings. Obviously, none of that is on the table if he’s not playing.

Basically, if the theory around the DIA having legitimate info pointing to TJ’s innocence has legs, this decision makes a lot more sense. I personally believe this is true. Josh and Brad are just too smart. Either way, when the dust settles, this decision is either going to look really good or really bad.

I think this is the best Illini team since the ’05 season.

We have 4 starters locked in. That 5th spot is up for grabs right now and it’s hard to say who this team is best with.

I’d like to see Harmon given the chance to start and continue to blossom with Rodgers shifting back to his natural position with plus attributes there.

I think Goode is under rated on this site - he has 2nd highest offensive rating on the team 2 points behind Shannon and 6 points ahead of 3rd place Harmon. He is shooting the highest 3 pt percent on the team at the highest volume per minute and possession.

Some of you just love to give sermons here. Please highlight anything in your post that hasn’t already been ruled on by the judge, or the school/DIA.

Beyond that, you’re just hypothesizing unknowns to manufacture a contrarian argument, and then make your own hypothetical counter argument to support the status quo?

I think some of you are just here to share your inner dialogue and preach to the rest of us.

Just be happy TSJ is playing basketball.

If this is really the basis for Parrish's view, then it is crystal clear he doesn't understand the legal analysis and he shouldn't be pretending he does in front of a large audience. He needs to ask someone qualified to explain it to him so he can share a more informed opinion.

I couldn’t get through Perrish getting so excited about saying the word rape repeatedly and killed the video. That was just weird and I found it disturbing. I believe his supposition that Brad and Josh could shadow suspend TJ, given the wording the federal judge used in her opinion, was at best naive and at worst a deliberate falsehood used to justify his rage. I trust that Josh and Brad have consulted U of I’s lawyers and aren’t going rogue. Too much at stake.

Wow, CBS guys giving Illinois and TSJ TONS of hate. I supposed I expected some, but, wow, they are making us sound pretty bad. Prepare yourselves for this the rest of the season guys, gals and non-binary pals. And if we win anything, TSJ's charges will always be brought up alongside it.

Mully and Haugh (more Haugh) outraged that Underwood played Shannon yesterday. Pretty sure Bernstein will go on a rampage about it as well.

I know none of details so I really don't comment one way or the other, but after the judge re-instated him, and he was a starter prior, not sure you could do anything else.
