In the BT only Bryce-Jordan is a more boring, vanilla college arena than The Schott. Both make the Xfinity Center at Maryland look like the Palestra. They're the aesthetic equivalent of those awful multipurpose circular football/baseball stadiums from the early '70s.
And the sweetest part of that is that all of Columbus knows and agrees. St. John was an awesome basketball facility, but the got greedy and wanted more seats. Well, they got more seats, don't think they get more fans.

St. John is a wonderful hoops venue. OSU shot itself in the foot, building a sterile, 20k-seat arena 25 yrs ago that they only draw 12-14k in the best of times for basketball. They did it partially for the expansion of their hockey program, and the concert revenue, both of which have been highly successful, but basketball suffered.

Strangely, my childhood friends in Cbus who went to OSU staunchly defend The Schott. SMH.

Every time I visit I read about the imminent demise of St. John to build a big park. Hasn't happened yet but will soon enough, I fear. I think the only thing that's keeping it open is the football pre-game band concerts there!

Honest question - any idea how much the staff uses +/- during a game to decide who plays down the stretch? Are they looking at the stats, or is it just a gut feeling thing? My impression of +/- is that it's very noisy, even averaged across many games, so I'm kind of hoping that it (+/- over 32 minutes or so) is not the determining factor for who's playing in crunch time...

You are correct, it's been well studied in the NBA that plus minus is extremely noisy and needs tons of games to stabilize

I think we are the better team, definitely more experienced. But both teams are talented. No road game is a gimme anymore, that much is clear this season in the BigTen.

This is not a “must win” but it sure would be nice to win and feel good about it. Time to get back on track.

I feel like the next two practices should just be defense and finishing layups haha
It's a must win for me. BU talks about being "elite." Not sure if "elite" programs should adopt this attitude.

I know you're not saying they are, but for me, "there is no tomorrow, there is no tomorrow, there is tomorrow . . "

Q didn't take a single shot. Given how he had been going, I find that odd.
0440 and Indy probably know but I'd guess that with TSJ back on the court there's at least a subtle change in the dynamic among the players and how they assert themselves compared with when he was out. I noticed both against NW and IU (and I believe BU said so) that various players passed up an unusual number of shots they should have taken. Sometimes there can be too much ball movement.

It will take a bit for an equilibrium among the rotation to be restored, and it won't be the Miznoz-game equilibrium. It'll be different because of what happened among the guys in the following three weeks of practice and 6 games when TSJ sat.

I agree with this, but I don't believe that they have had to much ball movement the last two games. To me it's been too much everyone standing around while one person tries to bad their man down into the lane. Our cutting and movement has seemed to almost be nonexistent.

The early 1st half against Indiana showed a smorgasbord of both.

Agree. MD backing his man cannot become the way the offense is begun for every possession. The five out does not work well if the ball never goes into the lane. IU use a double on MD to stop him and TSjr. was bottled from driving most of the game. Q is a critical part of the offense and his 14-10 needs to happen for this team to be good every night. I hope and believe that will come soon and we will see this team playing together as we all desire.

O$U has been playing trrrible basketball lately. Getting beat by Nb and Nw when both game were not close.Either they will be good or they will be like the last two games. We have to come out strong right from jump ball. Go Illini. I watched the Men’s Gymnastics last night. Big upset by the Illini.

I think the last fall he took has his recent wrist injury flaring up not an insider but since then he has been tentative on offense a little and defense as well

We've had some very nice ball movement on certain possessions. However, the past couple games at certain times the ball movement is spectacular but excessive and players aren't taking open drives to the hole or open looks. There's a tentativeness about them. Sometimes.

On the booty ball back downs (B-cubed-D or MDB-cubed-D, which I'm now trademarking) I agree that I'd like to see more screening and cutting to open up alternatives. I haven't played competitively in 35 years but I can recall that when a teammate goes 1-on-1 like that the default is to get a breather for a moment. Yes, ideally you'd move your a$$ and open up perimeter looks, but man that effort is wasted and sucks if Domask's BBBD is going to culminate in one of his patented, five pivot bunnies or ridiculous turnaround daggers. Which, of course, usually is the case.

I can only hope that Brad yells at them about this. ;)

Here we go (the cube was ready-to-go via slides I made for a class I teach... all graphics in my slides are O & B; subtle indoctrination.) I have an ND fan in there this semester whose boyfriend is apparently an OSU fan.

What I had heard is that his unwillingness to shoot the ball got him sitting. He didn't take some open looks and if you're not going to be productive(or try to be), you can sit next to me on the bench and be unproductive.
He was also missing FTs. He should be better than sub 60% from the line. But he seemed to be especially off Saturday.
