Do they review film? That has got to be ugly to re-watch this with the coaches. I’ve had my highs and lows watching CoHawk but tonight reverted back to the lows. He lets too much bother him. He gets fidgety when the ref doesn’t give him the ball at the line exactly when he wants it and complains about not getting a call instead of hustling back for defense. He is too talented to put out this kind of showing.

Ehh, sorry, but Chester is wrong here. Luke is probably tops on the team in all three of those areas. The problem is he’s also probably the least athletic player on the team.

Asking Goode to repeatedly guard Boo Buie… doesn’t matter what effort he gives. He’s been set up to fail by the scheme.

Thought the same thing. I’ll fully admit I sure didn’t appreciate Gentry like I should when he was here…

Don't think people really understood his value because he was such a quiet guy ... Some might say he was a little "weird" ...

But I think everyone has one of those guys they know that is a little "weird" but also is just an absolute dawg at what they do ... We miss him ...

I hear you, and he should be commended for what he's done with the program. However, it's time to be an "elite" team--a term he uses often. It's time to take that next step. For me, after last year's debacle and how some of these games are going this year, he is not an "elite" coach. How long do we have to accept this?

Aren't his errors glaring ones? Being stubborn can hurt a team as well. I accept the PU, Marquette, Maryland (no TSJ) and Tennessee losses. The other losses to MSU, NU and this one? Can't accept it. This team with this talent should be 22 - 4 presently with a great chance at a 2/3 seed. Instead, they'll be a 4/5 seed who will barely beat the 12/13 seed.

Last year, I was called crazy because I predicted (when the Illini were playing very well and most likely a 5/6 seed) that they would end up being a 9th seed. In the end, they were a 9th seed, because I saw the writing on the wall. And bu lost that team. That was his failure. This is following the same path.

The problem we run into is there are very few coaches out there better. It's way too easy to end up like IU or even us not too long ago, swinging and missing on multiple coaches in a row.

You think you have problems? I have all that you have, AND I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA. I have two cars, one with a license plate that reads ILLIINI and the other, ILLIINI. I don’t have clothes that doesn’t say “Illinois” or “Illini” on it, and half of it is Orange. This will not look good at the gym tomorrow.

I can only say “nine overtimes” so many times before I’ll hear “last four games.”

Dang, well you have a nice day tomorrow. I’ll be having my nose rubbed in it.

All the talent in the world. Sloppy play, lack of discipline, and poor decision making will doom this club. They simply can't close out games against bad teams, how can anyone expect them to make a serious run in the tournament?

Also, the defense is alarming. There is no way that a team with this much length and athleticism should be that bad defensively.

Am I wrong in thinking that Tyler could be on a trajectory to being on that level strategy wise?

Well Werner made it (to Freezing Cold Takes)

This game won't mean a hill of beans if this team makes it to the second weekend of tourney and even less if it makes it to third weekend.
This is true and great perspective. I’ll add that losses like this was inevitable when we didn’t land a point guard coming into the season. Well maybe not quite like this one, but a poor luck score in general.

I do agree that Underwood needs to revisit his end game lineups. Ty should have been on the floor. This was a fluke and I’ll happily trade it to beat Purdue in a couple weeks.

Most importantly I’m not ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Underwood has us back in the top 10-15 programs in the country. He’s showed a tremendous ability to adapt and learn from prior year. I still believe he has at least one final four in his future here. I just hope he lands a top tier PG in the next portal-go-round.

Maybe my memory is off but I feel like I remember Ayo taking a huge step forward when Gentry started working with him.

We don’t understand time and possession

Too many turnovers
I live in the Philippines, so forgive me. I can only view ESPN "play by play". This point is the perception I get while viwing the action. It doesn't have the clearer perception video provides. But it seems Illinois plays "run and gun" in late game situations. Domask and othrrs turn the ball over too many times. 3:30 left and 11 point lead. 10npoint lead 2:00, 7 point lead at 1:00. How did it happen as seen by tuned in eyes?

Coleman Hawkins had a terrible game, period! And instinct tells me that Underwood is repeating failed strategies.

Have to agree with this ... Freshman mistakes as a senior ... The difference in maturity between him and Domask is insane ...
Coleman had one of the lowest basketball IQ 15 seconds I can remember. Missing two free throws to pretty much ice game, to a reckless contest and close out on a three pointer all in 14 game seconds. A 5 point swing.
