I'm going to bet that they will cool off in the second half.
Has any team ever played a pick and roll on every possession worse than this team. Lazy, awful, embarrassing.

Unfortunately, the only real muscle we have down low is a freshman Hansberry right now…Hawkins and Guerrier get pushed around a lot. Dainja is a crap shoot. Hawkins is impressive covering anything but the opposing 5…which is what he is being asked to do 90% of the time.

You might have a point, but this is like explaining away your wife flirting with a guy at the bar … but she’s done it the last three times you’ve been at a bar, lol. You can probably explain it away as innocent in isolation, but if it KEEPS happening, maybe there’s another issue.

I don't think our defensive scheme is a good fit for our personnel.
The frustrating thing is with just an average defense this is a top 5 team. That’s how good the offense is.

Makes me absolutely horrified for a postseason situation where we desperately need a bucket … like down 1 with 10 seconds. It won’t be a set play, it’ll be EXACTLY what the other defense expects - someone going one on one and absolute chaos/improvisation if it isn’t there.
But why? Why not cross match Dain/Amani/Quincy on their physical banger and Coleman on their stretch 4?
After watching NW play Maryland it seems pretty simple to beat them. Clog the paint. Trap Reese. Make them make 3’s.
I realize you need principles but I really question our scouting and game prep.

When everyone switches, you can hunt the exact matchup you want. Mismatch means defenders gotta help and the kickout will be open
How many games do we need to see "the other team making tough shots" to understand the issue? D1 players make shots if they feel comfortable. They are good basketball players. Our defense is terrible. Don't keep teams out of the lane, and allow them open looks from 3. Again, D1 players are good; they will make shots if they feel comfortable.
We have several players that can’t play good defense one on one.
In Minnesota’s most recent game they scored 55 points total and they just scored 45 points on us in one half. Sheesh.
It seems like every team has a player with career highs when playing usm. Something doesnt seem right about this defense

Right, we just kinda let teams play in front of us, and then we don't double the post.
And Minny is tricky with their small guards in pick and roll coverages but we've been kinda all over the place even considering that.
