I had Duquesne initially as one of my upsets, but I changed it at the last minute when I recalled someone here saying they were the worst 11-seed in tourament history.

Which one of you is to blame!?
This was also repeated 5 times as well by that poster. Because of it, I put money on the Dukes and had them as an upset special. Our fans fear of BYU and that poster is what the college bball Gods feast on.

Duquesne ran two nifty plays at the end of the game to get the ball to Dae Dae Grant in a "must foul" situation. He would in bound the ball and then they'd quickly drop it back to him. This was pivotal as he went 4-4 from the line there to secure the win. They may be the team that wants a particular player holding the ball when the other team must foul more than any team in the country. Grant is a 94.1 % shooter and the rest of the guys that would be out there are pretty lousy free throw shooters. Hopefully the assistants have scouted that little play they are running and have a bigger guy ready for him to pop out quickly like that and deny him.

Regarding the Sleepers discussion, there’s a few types of media you can listen to and watch. Pick your jam:

- Fan Homer: Robert (IlliniBoard / We Love No Other Podcast) / The 200 Level

- Professional Homer: IlliniInquirer / IlliniGuys

- National Media: Field Of 68 / Eye On College Basketball / Etc

- Entertainment Media: Sleepers Media

Sleepers isn’t designed to be professional, it’s designed to be entertaining.

Obviously, the guys aren’t “fans” of Illinois basketball, so they might mistake some facts and when we have a bad team or season, they’ll absolutely make us fun for it (the players and the fans).

If you want something that’s buttoned up, facts straight, Illini slant, IlliniInquirer is probably best for you.

If you like listening to frat boys make bets, rag on bad teams, celebrate good teams, have wild takes, eat their crow when wrong, Sleepers Media is great.

Just depends on what you’re into.

I always dislike how March madness rolls around and they put a bunch of ppl who don’t know college bball on the broadcast. Avery about had a stroke trying to figure out Dain Dainja’s name in the first half yesterday until his partner bailed him out. He means well, he just doesn’t know (college) ball
I always wonder if guys like Avery Johnson panic when tourney time comes around. I realize it requires quite a bit of time and attention to familiarize yourself with all these teams, but it's his job. And it couldn't be more obvious he's fairly clueless. After DGL hit his first three, he said he transferred from EIU last year...what lol

I tend to disagree here. I'd rather play the team that is good defensively and doesn't score easily than the one who is predisposed to go on an epic heater from the arc. We've scored at will on comparable defenses. They are going to have to hit a bunch of 3's to beat us. Put TJ on Grant and let the chips fall where they may. I bet this one ends up looking a lot like the one yesterday. Tight for 35 minutes, then we run away when their legs go. It's sort of who we are.
That's a fair point. I tend to be more nervous of teams that can defend well and slow the pace of a game now. I think that is the type of team that can really disrupt a more talented team. Maybe I think too much of those Princeton teams from the late 80s to mid 90s that always seemed to give highly-seeded teams a fit in every NCAA tournament (or so it seemed).

Point granted that teams can go on a big streak of great shooting. For me, a team that can defend really well and take an up-tempo team out of its rhythm is a lot more nerve-wracking for me, because defense is much more of a constant than crazy-hot shooting is. That's why I just was not worried a lot about BYU - particularly because when Illinois' defense is at its peak, they contest three-point shots really well.

worked like a charm for me as all the games this season have.....I don't understand the complaining about network announcers when anyone has the ability to listen to Brian B. and Deon just by clicking on the radio app that Dan always posts on the first post in the game thread....try it , you MIGHT like it......
I have tried it, but for me the two broadcasts were so far apart that I wasn't sure which one to pause to get them synched, and it wasn't clear to me even how to pause the radio feed (there's no button, "to synch to YouTube TV broadcast, click here"). (Granted, I'm a knucklehead). More importantly, though, my TV feed often freezes once or twice a game, and I would panic trying to fix the synch without missing the action.

When I do it, I just take turn pausing the two feeds until they line up

The trick I did that worked pretty well yesterday was to pause whichever feed had the referee's whistle just before the jump ball and then restart it when the other feed has that same whistle. It worked yesterday because both feeds had the whistle, but I realize that may not happen for every game.

I would listen for horns or whistles to try and sync them up.

It's not so much that Duquesne is a bad matchup for us, but that they seem like the kind of team with the potential to make us the bad version of ourselves, if that makes any sense.

Just a grimy, combative, annoying team that will stay between us and the basket and won't quit. They won't win the game but they might fluster us into losing it.

Our ballhandling is going to be a problem in this game with their two pesky little guards.

It'll also be the oldest team we've played all year I'm pretty sure, neutralizing our often huge experience advantage. Their rotation has five super-seniors.

The good news is they're very small and don't shoot it terribly well. Execute well on D and give great effort on the glass and we should amass much higher percentage looks than them over the course of this game. But it's going to be twitchy and ugly, not like yesterday's contrast of two stylish teams in their own way.

usually when I need to sync up , it's the audio ahead of the video......so I open up the radio feed and pause it for 5-6 seconds and then go the video and sync up.....easier that way for me......I have been using the radio feed for Illini games in FB and BB for over 5 years now ........it's an easy sync for me now...........

Totally makes sense, and agree ball handling will be an issue. If I were Brad I would have Nico ready to go and put him in at the first sign that Domask is sped up. Because they are so small I think we can find someone for Nico to guard. Specifically, I am looking at their 5’8 pg who looks like he plays about 20MPG.

We probably don’t win the Iowa game without Nico. We have so many different levers to pull and so many different ways to play. I feel like Brad finally got comfortable pulling them the last 10 or so games of the season. Hopefully he’s comfortable at least giving Nico a shot when it counts.
