I am willing to bet the start doesn't get announced until AFTER the Purdue game. Makes a big difference if Illinois is 5-1 vs 4-2. If we are 5-1 and Michigan is 5-1 I'd expect it to be a prime viewing slot.
And Michigan is an underdog at Washington this week as well.

You look at the Big Ten slate that weekend and it's hard to see that game not being one of the three network slots though, even if both us and Michigan blow it in the meantime. OSU and PSU on bye and Oregon on Friday. The Grange hullabaloo and the fun uniforms will surely appeal as well.

Bama at Tennessee and Georgia at Texas that week, surely 2:30 and 7 on ABC.

Surprised by that line. While Michigan has not lit the world on fire they have been solid running the ball and on defense. Washington has been a mess. They have some talented players, but the new coach and players have made some really poor decisions and racked up a ton of stupid penalties.

I was a little surprised too, but advanced stats are pretty favorable on Washington.

Wazzu and Rutgers are good, narrow losses to those teams is no great shame.

And Husky Stadium really bottles the noise in, that is a tough place to play.

FTR, after the October 12th games were announced, I am updating this tracker I did to try to guess the Michigan start time. Again, this is my guess at which network got the first pick for each week, with confirmed/reported picks in green. For reference, Week 7 is the upcoming weekend slate of games.

W1 - FOX (PSU at WVU), NBC (FRST at MICH), CBS (AKR at OSU)
W2 - FOX (TEX at MICH), NBC (CU at NEB), CBS (ISU at IOWA)
W3 - FOX (BAMA at WISC), CBS (ND at PUR), NBC (IND at UCLA)
W4 - CBS (USC at MICH), NBC (IOWA at MINN), FOX (MARSH at OSU)
W5 - NBC (ILL at PSU), CBS (WISC at USC), FOX (MINN at MICH) ... really not sure on #2 and #3 here
W6 - NBC (MICH at WASH), CBS (IOWA at OSU), FOX (UCLA at PSU)
W7 - NBC (OSU at ORE), CBS (PSU at USC), FOX (WASH at IOWA)
W8 - [Illini/Michigan week]
W9 - [Illini/Oregon week]
W10 - FOX (TBD)
W11 -
W12 -
W13 -
W14 - FOX (MICH at OSU)

I actually c hanged my guess for Week 6, in that I now speculate that NBC got the first pick with Michigan at Washington, and CBS got the second pick with Iowa at Ohio State. So that still leaves 5 weeks for FOX, 3 for NBC and just 1 for CBS, with of course many weeks being unknown. In light of that, I am actually now growing pretty confident that Michigan at Illinois will be the 2:30 pm CBS game.

Nice! I’d be shocked if it does not sell out.
I would be extremely frustrated if it did not sellout.

1) 100 Year Celebration
2) Defending National Champs in town
3) Very competitive Illinois team (likely attempting to secure bowl berth) in national spotlight

It would be a failure as a fanbase, if we did not make this a sellout.

They already sent out the Varsity I ticket request (football alumni) two weeks early in anticipation of a sellout. We are, at minimum, looking at a crowd that will at least look like a sellout. That's a huge deal for this program!
I said this in the Purdue thread, but due to the number of "invisible" seats we have underneath the East Balcony overhang, we only theoretically need an attendance of 55k+ for Memorial Stadium to more or less look packed. And it sounds like we are well past that!

The major negative is that most seats that struggle to sell for a sellout are in the corners of the East main balcony. And unfortunately those are the most visible on TV when they are not full or close to full. More reason why someone's suggestion to close off the overhang and put a similar wall from the west side is a great idea. Let's get people out in the open!

I disagree completely with this idea.

1) I do not like the idea of making our seating capacity even smaller for the purposes of looking like a sellout on tv
2) Some actually purchase seats under the overhang on purpose. On sunny days when it is hot, the upper East Balcony is almost unbearable. I have front row seats on the East Balcony, and because of the sun and heat on Homecoming, we had to move and stand under the overhang with my 19-month old (and there was near full capacity under there due to the heat and sun). We ended up watching most the second half in a standing room only environment, and that was fine with me

3) Continue to win and this will not be an issue worth discussing. Almost all seats will be filled. Win and they will come.
