A lot to like. KJ was sublime. Will continues to look the part. Morez is a stud. Tomi is a pro. Tre & Ben shot over 50%from downtown…

I’m sure Brad will find a reason to be mad during the film session, but he’s got the raw materials to make something special.

Maybe this will be Morez for us

Ok...

Enjoy every minute of Kasparas...I think it's only one year for him.

For a Freshmen, he is as advanced of a offensive PG as you will see. Passing is outstanding, he sees the court extremely well, he is never sped up, his handle is excellent. As a Freshman, you just don't see point guards that calm, collective and poised.

The thing that stands out for me the most though, is his leadership...he, already, is the undisputed leader if the team. He is talking and giving guidance every...single...play. He's unselfish, fun to play with and from every bit of info we have, is a basketball junkie...it's ball and that's it for him.

For an NBA scout, he's a 6'6 true blue PG. And if he keeps developing like this, he'll be the highest Illnois player drafted in a while.
Not a stretch in the least to say KJ is already the best point guard we've had at Illinois since Deron Williams. He just has "it" when it comes to point guard play. There will be a ton of NBA scouts at our games because of him.

I mean he didn’t look pleased that Morez didn’t let him have that rebound at the end, but he didn’t press at all.

Given how badly we rebounded for most of the game, we need that energy from Morez every possession he’s on the court.

Loved what I was able to see!

By that, I mean that I was watching "behind" the live broadcast and was abruptly booted from being able to watch further when the live broadcast concluded. Now waiting for the replay to become available (which it says will be "soon").

Lesson learned, I guess. Despite an otherwise fine broadcast, I'm annoyed at Peacock and glad we don't have too many games there.

/end rant

Great start. Ben was really good, I believe he was great. Kylan on the ball defense is awesome. KJ was fantastic at the point. When he gets the ball to the shooter they are ready to shoot. He sees the floor like that and puts guys in places where they can score. Will is a killer. Tomi had 18 points and is a rim protector. As I have said, he is the missing piece. Morez gives us a defensive presence that we have never had. He is quick off his feet and brings energy to our team. Tre was great. He has scored in double digits for two years so his track record is there and his defense was solid. We have bigs who can really shoot it and it spaces the floor and we have a great facilitator in KJ. This team is special.

Now , that was fun.....It really really was.............so many contributors on offense and we played some sticky D also...............

KJ is a stat stuffer....He is a true floor general and that no look pass in the first half was poetry in motion....12 pts ,13 assists, 8 rebs
Tomi is our answer in the paint and has a smooth 3 pt shot too............18 pts and 7 rebs...............
Trye White with another very good game..............he does a little bit of everything...............
Big Ben with five 3 pointer's..............played excellent D also.............
DGL didn't score much but worked his arse off on D.........
Will Riley with another 4 point play and 14 points............
Morez with 5 pts and 8 rebs........................
KB with only 2 pts but elite D..........

He's light years ahead of his age in basketball IQ terms...he's a triple double threat every night, and he's not even looking for his own offense yet.

If you want to nit pick...he can make some erratic passes, but I don't think that's something you want to challenge because you want the aggressiveness.

The only other thing, from and NBA standpoint...he's a good athlete, but he's not an elite athlete and the NBA wants elite run/jump guards, but he more the makes up for it with his mind on the court.

Enjoy him while he's here.

I bet we’ll see Bam not starting starting sooner rather than later.
Disagree. He played excellent defense tonight, mostly on Taylor, who went 4-15 from the floor. And I thought he looked pretty good when the ball was in his hands. Better than DGL.

I thought Tomi was incredible in the first half. Also shout outs to White and Humrichous for strong games at both ends. Riley forced things a bit tonight.

My one counterpoint to this - and I mentioned this to my brothers as well - is I see more than a little Luka Doncic in KJ's game. He looks like he's playing "slow" but he's obviously not. Luka isn't an elite athlete, but his mind and skills more than make up for it.

Much slower pace tonight, at just 68 possessions. 90 points in 68 possessions is good enough for 1.32 PPP. First game, they were 1.33 PPP offensively. So effectively the same offensive game, a similar defensive game, at a slower pace, leads to a 32 point win instead of a 45 point win.

The press slowed the game down and cut the number of possessions.

The line up of kj, tre, will, humrichous, tomi looked pretty good. Lots of positional size, passing and shooting.

In the first game there was a line up of boswell, will, humrichouse, Booth and morez that also looked very good.

I see Tre and Booth being more impactful. Booth moves very well for his size, seems to pass and shoot well. Bball IQ there as well. He will be in rotation, especially in tough games as Tomi/Rez/Ben pick up fouls.

Tre has a lot of tools and can be at the 2 or 3 spot. Can breakdown players and pass.

Yes, and getting out rebounded on the offensive glass didn’t help. (We’re gonna have to start playing tougher off the boards against better competition.)
But we still put up 90…
Like everybody else, I’m intrigued to see where this thing goes.

if Boswell isn't going to get it together, that should be our starting 5. He's awfully slow out of the gates.
