I think Bama is absolutely loaded. Just Uber athletic and I was very impressed with how they were able to stretch us out on defense. They always pushed and ran the ball hard as well.

The youngsters.. Riley and Rez showed some fight. I’m with others.. Riley has to start and Rez is a fighter and brings toughness.

I still think we can finish top 5 in the big ten. Bama is just that good.
Plus it was essentially a home game for Bama. That matters and we can't miss double digit FTs o. The road vs a top.10 team. I doubt that happens in State Farm Center. I am optimistic after tonight. This was a game for our young guys to grow and improve.

Can't see him as a lottery pick unless he cleans up those turnovers against good competition.

I know I'm going to sound like I'm just complaining because Brad coached the #2 offense in the country last year and they just put up 90 but man the scheme is so bland and repetitive.

Basically everything is a pnr with either the screener or ball handler taking the shot. Which the pnr is great and incredibly difficult to defend at a high level but they don't do anything else to pair with it. No off ball movement or off ball screens to help put pressure on the defense and create open looks outside of the pnr. The offense isn't all too different from what you would run with 5 random guys playing pickup.

Would love to see Brad get an offensive assistant coach to replace Tim to help run some sets and add some variety. Is there any chance Greg Kampe is tired of being a head coach and would come to Champaign as an assistant for a pay raise?

I really liked that KJ was looking to get his in the 1st half; not sure where that went in the 2nd.

That was Boswell’s best game by far. Looked to score and completely shut down Sears.

The way we’re defending the ball screens isn’t working. And the way we tried to run Bama off the three point line in the second half just led to a layup line to the rim. Need to figure that out, big time.

Free throws! 🤦🏾‍♂️
We’ve been defending ball screens like that for 3 seasons now. And it hasn’t ever worked against quality guards. I just don’t get it.

I feel like there should be a hard stop after the bolded.

You like that we're one of the top scoring offenses in the country, but you want to see the same points scores differently?

I subscribe to the it doesn't matter who the first five are, it matters who the last five are.

If you're getting the bulk of the minutes and are on the floor at the end of the game....that's what matters.

Being in the starting five is a pride thing.
As seen in the game today, the beginning of the game can set the tone.

Completely disagree here.

lol we were just passive on D.

But we scored 87 on a legit Top 5 team while missing 99.9999999% of our FTs, and looking discombobulated on offense most of the game.

Keep working and…climbing.
Is Groce’s ladder in a closet somewhere?
Maybe we need the ladder.

They got off to an insanely hot start, but even with that we were down what....21-17? There was no cause for alarm. They hit 5 threes with one(maybe two) that banked in. We were ok.

They went on an 11-0 run midway through the half that created the gap. I can't tell you who was on the floor during the stretch, but those 3 - 4 minutes are what defined the game.

I will agree with you (or anyone) that Tre needs to start showing up. He's been a bit of a disappointment, BUT it's only been 4 games.

We’re just not ready - the talent is there but we have zero toughness and completely lack fundamentals

Even on offense - in the second half we could have gotten anything we wanted but it was a lot of no pass force a shot by the guy who brought it up. Brad seems like he’s treating this team with kid gloves and maybe because he senses they can’t handle it- but he has to get them to execute better, guard the three point line and rebound

I fear it’s going to be one of those seasons we think - what could have been with all the talent we have. Right now they don’t seem to be buying into the team mentality at all

Looking at the schedule to start the year, this looked like the toughest game of the season. Top 10 team, on the road, early in the season before the team could really find a rhythm.

And they still were in this game with 2 minutes to play, despite not converting the freebies and turning the ball over 13 times.

I would be ok with that if Tre was putting up solid numbers while Will was on the bench but that has been far from the case.
Riley IS playing starter minutes. Despite Tre starting all 4 games, he has played only 72 minutes to Will’s 106. Last 2 games the difference is even greater — 30 to 57. Given he reclassified and his slight build, I don’t think Brad wants to play him more than 28-30 minutes, especially this early in season.
