As others have also mentioned, Rutgers is a good example of this as well. Rutgers is basically a 2024-25 version of Pat Kennedy-era DePaul right now.

Pretty strong Tommy Amaker vibes from Scheyer.
I don't think Scheyer has underperformed, I think he has met expectations. Very few bad losses but also few big wins. He tends to lose to the best teams and beat everyone else.

I think Duke's problem is along the lines of what people are saying about Rutgers. They have stuck with the we're going to take all the best high school recruits approach. In the current environment, where those stud Fr are going up against 23 year olds. That will end after this year.

That said, I think Duke needs to get on board with the new transfer world. They pretty much only bring in transfers to be bench role players. With the way they recruit, if they bring in 3 or 4 top high school recruits and 2 or 3 of the top transfers, the amount of talent alone will be very hard to beat regardless who the coach is. Going the only Fr route is actually doubling damning, you have to go through their struggles and adjustments, and then they leave for the NBA because their talent level is so high, so you never get their best.

Millions of fans do not understand how other coaches look, feel, and know about freshman led teams. It takes some time for freshmen to learn to know what they don't know about big time college hoops.

In some season, those Rutgers frosh may become terrific players...but not likely this season....

Not saying you're wrong at all...but we kind of qualify as that too right? I keep hearing we will grow and develop over the year. Surely theirs could too?

All fair points and I agree with their deep pockets they should grab some stars from the portal. That said, I really like their portal pickups this year. James, Gillis and Brown all have positional size and are ideal role players next to the star freshmen.

I am usually in the Duke is overrated camp but I think they are really good this year. One of the only teams with even more positional size than us. I do think we’ve got a roster to compete with them in February but we’ve got some work to do between now and then. If Tre White could turn into a guy who shuts off the best opposing wing’s water, that would be nice.

Memphis will be top 10 by the time the next poll comes out.
Memphis is pretty talented.....guards are athletic and DD seems quicker than I remember.....depth and coaching will be their achilles heel

Was wondering if anyone would catch that. The Illini's top three players are freshmen plus you could look at Morez as a fourth. Hopefully, their heads are on straight and buying into the EDG mantra that BU demands. But having watched all but one game (ARK-LR), they are playing like freshmen and making freshmen mistakes...albeit with some evident skills. Also, there is an evident lack of speed...on both ends...that this roster may never exhibit.

The good thing is that BU is working to solve these problems but I am not sure how you can make up for the lack of speed that the Bama game exposed.

I love beating Mizzou in Braggin’ Rights as much as anyone. I love how intense our Iowa rivalry became again the past 5 years or so. I found the Michigan teams of the Juwan/Dickinson era to be as annoying as any Big Ten program ever, and frankly the current iteration of Purdue is irritating as hell.

But MAN … whenever I actually sit down for a game and see those dumba$$ clown pants, I remember just how easy it is to root against Indiana and why they’ve probably been the single most consistent rival over several decades. Everything about them is so annoying. Go Louisville!

So Hepburn moved from whisky to Loville. Interesting.
And I do agree with you on the quality of play. But at this time of the season, that's OK as long as Indinia comes up on the short end of the result.
I fall into the “want conference teams to win noncon games” camp. Let them build up their NET rankings, so each time the Illini beat them it is as high a quad win as possible.

I’m guessing Hurley didn’t see his team playing in the game scheduled to start at 11:59 pm ET today. Awwwww
