Maybe I am misremembering, but I’m pretty certain if you go back to early season game threads you’ll find a lot of discussion how poorly the OLine was doing and not opening up holes. So Feagin wasn’t shooting fast enough through the “holes” that weren’t there?
People were really down on Aidan early in season. Wasn’t hitting those “holes” fast enough either.

Lo and behold, the line got better as season went along so much that now we’re looking at it as a big strength going into next year. Feagin’s two best games other than EIU were his last 2 games. Maybe cuz the line was improving? Most of Josh’s best games were in the latter portion of season. Maybe cuz line continued to improve? Aidan’s best two games were arguably his last two (certainly NW was his best) — when the line was a legitimate strength.

Feagin never got to run behind the line when it was a strength. He still had a ypc average of 5.3 with some very nice runs his last 2 games with an improving line. And I think he would have continued to improve as the line did if he hadn’t gotten hurt.
You nailed it. Thanks.

There's really no current argument about who wins the spot. A whole off-season of work and growth ahead. The competition should bring out the best in most of these guys.

“ As long as there's a legitimate, open competition”? Is Bret known for eschewing open competitions and just anointing players as starters?
I can't imagine any college coach who gets paid big bucks to win, not having a legitimate competition for paying time at every position. Now does attitude, how hard you work and how you practice have an affect on playing time? I assume so. The coaches are with these players everyday and know what they are capable of and how they perform at practice which usually indicates how they will perform in a game for the most part. But outside factors can affect game play as well. A breakup with a girlfriend, being sick or injured, something going on at home like a divorce, etc.

Yep, that’s why I was surprised by that post. Thought maybe I had missed some stories.

this. never ceases to amaze me that fans think they know better than staff why a guy is playing as much or as little as he is. fans need to realize that HS rankings/ratings/accolades mean squat compared to performance in practice.

Overall, yes, I’d agree. But prior to PSU he averaged 4.8 ypc. After that game 5.5. And last 5 games including bowl game he was at 6.6. His production went up as line improved.

The difference is he started getting more carries. Faegin averaged 4.6 ypc it’s not like the line was trash at any point. The biggest difference is those guys got more carries which helps a back get into a grove.

Should we remember this comment in the middle of the basketball game thread? Not sure if you're one that questions minutes with 30 minutes to go in a game? ;). J/K of course.
