My first post game interview question to BU would be, "Coach, why was there only a cursory effort to blanket Davis and keep him off the three point line in the second half since he was the only player that could catalyze a Huskie comeback?" I would sincerely like to hear his honest answer to that.

Otherwise, until he shot them back into contention, the energy, focus, and effort were elite. But Davis single-handedly gave them the belief they would win this game and all the good turned into pucker. Put a great defender on his butt and that all goes away.

But kudos to KB and KJ for hitting huge pressure FTs. Also another great game by Tre who seems to be becoming the glue guy we can count upon every night. It was a great team effort again, especially the first 30 min.

Not far from our worst shooting all season and still came out with the win after controlling a majority of that game until our usual 7 minutes left slump. Ecstatic with what the team showed this trip. All of our goals are in reach!

Again, it wasn’t the Outabounds play that was called That was the issue. It was the execution! I recall we made at least two baskets off of inbound plays today.
100% agree. The plays are fine, but when the game is getting hot....guys aren't making hard cuts, they're not coming to the ball, the inbounder panicks and I don't think that KJ knows the rules of the backcourt on an inbounds play. I suppose you could pin that on Brad?

I'll never be too upset about a road conference win, but we have to stop playing down to the level of our competition and stop making mental errors on out of bounds plays. Those two things are really the only question marks that worry me. There will be nights where shots aren't falling. This was one of those nights. The looks were there, so I can't really say too much critical about the offense.

The Illini just looked tired and out of sync at the end of a long road trip, but still found a way to win despite shooting under 20% from 3, and too many sloppy turnovers and questionable shot selection at times. Coming away with the sweep, I'll take it. Mission accomplished. Going forward in the B10, we can expect to get the best effort from any team we play, as knocking off the Illini will be a signature tourney building win. I believe Brad and staff will have us ready for the challenge.

they had a kid go unconscious from 3, and we had probably 4-5 rim out. That Tomi late three went 3/4 down and out. Happens 🤷🏻‍♂️.. the major positive is I think we played pretty well defensively, good on the glass, didn’t get too shook down the stretch and albeit a poor shooting night, still pulled this one out on the road after an emotional high. I’ll take it. 3-1. Penn State will be tough but we can get 2 at home next week. ILL

I may be in the minority here but I absolutely loved what I saw today. Some amongst our fan base think every game should turn out like the Oregon game. I saw perseverance, composure, and resiliency today on the second game of a west coast road trip. Sooo many Illini teams in the past would have folded in this situation.
I saw entirely too much boneheaded basketball to "love" that, what the heck.

On top of the dumb play, Washington is a poor team that we were unable to defend in the second half. Hooray, they didn't lose. I can be glad for that. However, bringing that execution consistently would be good enough for 7th or so in the conference. Not lovable.

Wish we were able to get out in transition a bit more like last game with how much we dominated the glass. Will look for them to get back to that next game.

It would also be great if our guys were less lackadaisacal with the ball in their hands. The lead would have been insurmountable had we taken care of the ball.

I'm not talking about firing the ball out of bounds on aggressive plays (that didn't happen). I am talking about simply not being aware that defenders will poke the ball out your hands if they get a chance. The lack of awareness in this regard during the first half was mind-boggling to watch.

I’m gonna chalk this performance up to the usual let down after a big time win.
Well, we scored 81 points (not indicative of a let down), we were up 17 in the first half (not indicative of a let down), we led by 11 at half time (not indicative of a let down), we overcame a guy who hit a zillion threes even though he's, what, sub-35% on the year (not indicative of a let down), and we showed real poise down the stretch with some clutch buckets, made free throws, and winning plays on defense (not indicative of a let down).

We did shoot poorly from three (not indicative of a let down), and made a bone-headed inbounds pass... was that the thing that was indicative of a let down?

This was huge. Winning an ugly game on the road, when your shots aren’t falling, on the back end of a west coast trip. These young fellas are learning. We good, real good.
And with one of their guys going into insane mode late.

Yes! Fletch needs to get hand strength exercises going or something.

I’m just a lowly high school coach, but learned this from a great mentor of mine. Here you go, Brad.

“Circle”

Stack your 5 and your 1, with 3 (best scorer) and 2 (or 1) standing on opposite sides of the fence/stack.

3 breaks in front of the fence, using it as a screen, 2 breaks behind, as the safety option.

Hit 3 going to basket, if he’s not open, can throw to 1 in backcourt.

Once 2 and 3 finish their “circle”. 5 backpedals deep as a “throw it up high” option and 1 breaks towards ball as option to pass in and then hand it off to 4.

Preferred outcome: Layup to 3.
Alternatives: Backcourt to 2, short pass to 1, high pass to 5.

Once teams scout it, can simply reverse the direction of the circle or have them “fake” the normal circle and reverse it.

we shot 19% from 3. 19%. and still finished 47% from the field and scored over 80pts on the road.

this team is a problem.

I liked Ben backing down and playing more physical today; 6 rebounds is a nice counting stat for him too.

feels like the rotation is settling in a bit more; I like the up tick in MJ and DGL; would love to see more of them.
