Am I off the wall thinking our Illini at the end of the season might just beat either ND or PSU?
Prolly the orange glasses and koolaid, but I like our QB, WR's, TE's, and DB's better than what I saw tonight.
PSU's OL and DL were a load, tho.

No way either of these team beat OSU, imo.

You can also go back and bring up NIU, but both of the teams that played in those respective games are not who we have been watching these last 2 weeks. However, 1 (OSU) has been much more impressive in their wins than the other in the CFP thus far.
The UM loss was 5 weeks ago. PSU 7.

The NIU loss was 4+ months ago.

I think tOSU will be favored. But if it's more than 3 pts I'd be pretty surprised.

I personally dont. OSU has a QB that can throw. The next game for ND is going to be completely different, even if it's Texas.

They barely beat a 1 dimensional Offense in PSU.
This is where I'm at too.

Not to trot out the "they havent played anybody" mantra, but ND has faced two consecutive teams that don't have a QB. And their first game in the playoffs was against a team that was a bit of a gimmick all year. Both OSU and Texas can run/pass, they have speed and size.

My gut feel after last night is that this will be like most years where the championship is played a week early by two significantly better teams that happened to be on the same side of the bracket.

Translation: "Since we don't have three out of four SEC schools in the semi-finals, we need to change the CFP format."

But the upper Midwest is beautiful in winter!

‘He was ‘lukewarm’ about the prospect of playing quarterfinal games on the team's campuses rather than at bowl sites.”

Given the inability to get the ball to their wideouts, the field position, and under a minute to play, I was baffled by Penn State taking a timeout before the ND punt. The chances of them being able to get the ball into FG position was roughly the same odds of a turnover for them. Even without the turnover, had ND stopped the first run, the possibility of Penn State having to punt from deep in their own territory was there because ND had 3 timeouts. The downside of taking that TO instead of just going to overtime was greater than the upside. It was almost Zookian.

I dont see any more prima donnas on Penn State than Notre Dame and since I couldnt get my wish they both lose, Im pleased that Franklin lost as he is unbearable with his " We Are ....Superior " mantra. He cant bring himself to compliment a team or player he believes inferior to PSU, even if they were beaten by them.

Allar actually has the 16th most passing yards in the ncaa, just 4 slots behind Howard at OSU. But different style of passing obviously.

Notre Dame's defense played well, but I am shocked at how poorly PSU played and was coached. Allar was just horrendous. They should have beaten ND by 10+ points. While I hate the Domers, I like Freeman, happy to see him do well. As for Franklin, I don't think he will ever get PSU a championship (not that it's an easy thing to do), even with PSU's resources.

ND made in game adjustments and PSU did not. ND played relatively smart down the stretch (still think that was a ticky tacky PI).

Franklin getting outclassed by a 3rd year head coach is damning.

To be fair, the byes for the top 4 champions needs to go. They can AQ, but give the byes to the best 4 teams.

Look at Texas's schedule. It's really not that impressive either. What's their best regular season win? A 17-7 win over an 8-5 Texas A&M team that lost to USC in their bowl game (and that ND also beat)? Their win over a very meh Michigan team in the first game of the season? 3-point win over Vandy?

In the playoffs I think ND has looked better than Texas, against tougher competition (there is absolutely zero reason to think Clemson or ASU are tougher opponents than any of the teams ND played). And there's also the fact that ND beat a Georgia team that Texas lost to twice.

I think OSU is the clear favorite to win the whole thing. I think they take care of Texas pretty easy. I think they beat ND too, but I do think ND is a tougher game for them than Texas will be. And I'll admit, the complete dud the SEC has been in the playoffs and bowls does significantly affect my thinking on this.

0 yards by PSU receivers last night. Not sure if it's a Allar problem, or the WR's just aren't good. That's actually inexcusable in a cfb playoff game though.

Is Bleacher report in the SEC’s pocket too?

From the article:
Additionally, the four highest-ranked conference champions receive first-round byes. That granted Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State a free trip to the quarterfinals this year.

Oregon, Boise State and Arizona all lost their respective quarterfinal matchups.

Hmmm, I seem to recall ANOTHER team that was given a bye that also lost their quarterfinal matchup.

Maybe one that was mentioned about 14 words earlier in the same article?

he can lose it with his guys or he can lose it with your guys. not a good coach
Plain and simple, Franklin coaches scared in big games, and just doesn't make critical in game adjustments. His pregame planning is good but he seems afraid to go away from it when a talented opponent figures it out. I have a difficult time seeing JoePa in his prime losing that game.

We need the ND love and the SEC love to end. Therefore, we need OSU to win and win convincingly. We would then have an argument that the B1G had 3 of the best 4 teams in the NCAA. This will make everyone else look better.
And more to the point, next season when Illinois is in the playoff discussion with an SEC team with the same number of losses, we want the narrative to be, "none of the SEC teams, even the ones ranked highly, looked good in last year's playoffs, while the Big Ten proved they belonged."

I understand hating OSU. I do too. But rooting for Texas is rooting against your own self interest if you are an Illinois football fan.

We should be rooting for OSU to win by 100.
