Usually aren’t going to win a road game when you shoot 5/24 on 3s.

Can’t risk a technical when it’s a 4 point game late. Stupid play by Underwood. He came out on the court and was restrained by Antigua. Should a ref call that on that situation? No. But if you are the HC, can’t risk it.

Basically nothing out of KJ. Can’t foul out on the play he did.

All that said to still be in the game on the road against a top 15 team is a positive. Great games outs of Riley, DGL, Morez. Really liked Morez this game. He is an excellent finisher down low and has really good hands.

Had a chance to steal it. Didn’t do it. On to the next game.

I normally don't complain about refs much but that game was not called the same on both ends from the start. It seemed smaller players get calls bigger ones don't. MSU getting that TO when BU was teed up was a double dip serving of bs.

Honestly this game just validates the thoughts that this team's ceiling is ridiculously high. For us to even be in the game with all the nonsense that took place is incredible. Let MSU enjoy this one, we have a hell of a lot more to play for.

This. They won the game, but i would think even Sparty knows they got away with one. Illini are the better and more complete team.

The optimistic takeaways:

- SO many things went wrong, and we were still right there. Our guys had a chance late with everything seemingly going against them.
- On that note, this is a mentally and physically tough group. They don’t give up, and even though they have mental mistakes as many young teams do … they don’t fold.
- I hope this group learns from this and realizes that it will similarly be a game of inches in big-time March Madness situations. If we can prevent 1-2 more things from compiling (fouls, missed passes, missed free throws, etc.), we win that one.
- Lastly, as is the case depressingly rare these days in the new Big Ten, we get a return game with these guys in Champaign. It will likely be our best environment of the year on a Saturday night, coupled with the revenge factor and honoring TSJ. We need to punish them.

To state the obvious, the refs were atrocious and completely neutralized Kasparis. Also, what did Brad due to get a technical at that critical point(they showed him being remarkably calm). I honestly thought Brad was calm to a fault and should have been working the refs earlier over all the Kasparis fouls.

On the other hand though, the Illini did not play well. They moved the ball well for the first 10 minutes and then just stood around and stopped attacking the basket for the next 25 minutes. Theyre playing 3 6'2 guards, why are you shooting step back 3's?

Boswell can do some things really well but I swear he has a negative basketball IQ. Why are White and Boswell taking heat check step back 3's when neither one is even hot?

For the people going psycho this entire thread about the reffing, if Brad didn't follow suit....

I don't care how bad the calls were, you HAVE to play through it. If people weren't watching the game and only followed the thread.....they didn't see ONE comment about one of our guys making a solid play. Not one.

Tough loss, but we had enough, even without KJ, to win.
We did play through it 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Officiating was trash in the first half, and much more evenhanded in the second half. Unfortunately, the phantom calls on KJ on four of his five fouls probably cost us a close game in one of the toughest environments in the B10. Nothing to hang our heads about concerning effort. We have gotten better each month as the season has continued, and I am very confident we will be peaking at tourney time. Very exciting time to be an Illini fan.
With KJ, we win by 12+

What was the T for. Seemed really quick

Earlier in the game didn’t like that the ref at half court near Izzo overturned 2 refs under the basket for possession

I said before the game rebounds would be a key stat we had 41 to their 40. Basically even

However 3 points percentage 20%
Free throws 17-27 63%

And 5 quick fouls on KJ

Feb 15th should be a good game

I still don’t know why they blew their whistle when Bam’s last shot hit the rim, but whatever. this was one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever watched. I want to watch two teams play & see who wins, not a ref show where they take the best players out of the game.

I don't understand that last shot by Boswell. He knows it's illegal to shoot over the backboard, right? Why put up a shot that has no chance of counting even if it miraculously goes in?
I believe It touched the top of the backboard on the way down & was called out of bounds.

This one hurts, but it just proves that we are the better team to only lose by two on the road when the refs take your best player your all American out of the game right off the start
