I knew the officiating would be one-sided, but taking KJ completely out of the game was something I never would have imagined happening,
I know that officiating is difficult and there are posters here (maybe former refs) that insist they try their best to not favor one team over another. But I've seen too much over the years to not believe there are times where officials are biased.

Losing in East Lansing is not the end of the world. Loved the fight we showed late. We didn't make enough threes or free throws to overcome the loss of KJ. Still lots to be encouraged by with these young guns.

Yeah the ceiling for this team is when the 3s are falling, and very few teams can beat us. MSU isn’t one of those teams. They barely won with the opponent shooting 5/24.

This game feels quite a bit like Tennessee. Where we played a tough competitive game vs a good team and came up little short. Of our losses (Alabama, NW, TN, MSU, USC)….USC/NW was unacceptable. TN/MSU were fine. Bama is just better.

What happened today is a huge deal. When there is direct influence on the big ten champion, an investigation needs to be opened and appropriate parties fired. Enough is enough. It starts with one of the worst officials Jeffrey Andersen

We got Houston Texans-ed by the zebras. Couple of thoughts

-College officiating is a joke especially when you are trying to put out a product for folks to watch. Seen this happened mutiple times. A game is on prime network, one team has either a lottery pick or one of the best player in the country playing on said team that people tune in to watch, and refs made the game about themselves. 9 minutes total playing time cause of the ref is asinine.
-Love that the team fought and eventually had the chance to win with the shot clock off. However, Kylan and Tomi got to practice more of their pick and roll. Lol. We don't see much of that from the two because obviously KJ's the one that work that pick and roll with Tomi a lot.
-Will Riley came out of his slump and man really hoping this becomes the springboard for him.
-Tre had another bad game. We missed some key free throws but Tre making only one out of three from that 3 points free throw attempt was brutal and costly.
-Our defense skank it up giving up way too many drives from Michigan State. The rim protection from our team was brutal and uncharacteristic.
-The officiating may have gotten into our guys' heads. That second half consisted of some really awful possession. Chucking up bad threes not attempting to drive or do anything else other than chucked those bad shots.
-Ref finally gave Brad a tech but it ended up being a weak tech call. SOFT!
-I think the team will be fine. Big Ten title picture is out of the window for now. It's a three horse race right now between Michigan State, Michigan, and Purdue. At this point for us, all I care about is stacking wins and our upcoming games are big opportunities for that. "Easy" stretch coming up for us.
-Overall, my thought of this game is summed up in one word....WHATEVER. Big Ten officiating is the reason why. I am over it and I have no faith the conference will fix this. I will be happy to be proven wrong.

My problem with officiating is it wasn't just KJ. At every critical juncture, the refs blew the whistle to help stem the tide in our favor. Between offensive fouls called, weak rebounding calls, and the time out granted on a clear jump ball was crazy!!! Im chipping in for the fine for Brad. Izzo makes the tourney every year bc he has assistance.

If this game turns out retrospectively to be the preview of a Will Riley end of season dominating breakout, then it takes away the negative feeling from one loss. I have a high degree of confidence that these Illini are resilient, learn from mistakes, and will be playing their best ball of the season come tourney time. We may or may not win the regular season B10 title, but I am convinced we are the most dangerous B10 team with the highest upside when the Big Dance rolls around. No one is going to want to see us in their bracket.

The only good news is if their bets were for MSU against the spread, they just lost their houses.
I would consider it more officiating incompetence vs betting prowess. None of their bets would’ve paid off (first half or otherwise) based on removing KJ and Will from the lineup, unless they bet the full under (160.5) as it came in at 158. But that’s cutting it pretty close, and it would make no sense to send a great free throw shooting team repeatedly to to the line if that’s your goal.

That said, if they’re this incompetent at officiating, maybe they’re equally incompetent at betting. 🤷🏼‍♂️

No win situation there. Not necessarily bad coaching.
We shot 21% from three and missed 10 free throw. Our best player was butchered and sent out of the market and still we only lose by 2 in izzo ville! That was a perfect storm for M. State that they needed at home in a hostile environment and YES they won but by the hair of their chinny chin chin. The great thing about it is no one got injured that we know of and our other Freshman came in and played pretty good. Sooo, we knew that as we grew that there would be these kinds of games. For people to bame it on Underwood is ludicrous. Not His fault. Gotta shoot better from the field and ON THE LINE especially there and at Mackey.
