Interesting. My Dad was the District Construction Engineer for District 5 which included much of the area around C-U. He always said he would take his newly graduated engineers to the area and ask them to make a drainage diagram for the area.....in which there was not a 3 ft. change in elevation within 50 miles. It was an unsolvable problem. Of course, there is a hill near Philo that makes that untrue. Yet, I doubt there is a 3 ft. change in elevation anywhere on the Illinois campus....so no sympathy from me.
I believe the highest point on campus is where they dumped the dirt from the excavation for the Assembly Hall.

Self complaining about student support and Kansas no longer has the same level of interest and home court advantage!!! Has this been said from Loyalty posters about Illinois.....

Why is Bill’s face so red? Looks like he’s grunting one out.

Clearly they also missed the impossibility of going uphill both ways or else they'd have called me out for that, too.
I actually thought his response was quite humorous. Joke within a joke.

I wonder if lack of support also has to do with the revolving door of players that come and go. Hard to get super excited and built up when you know next year could just be different

Bricking a lot of threes and limiting opponent 3pt attempts has to be a major driver here.

It's not just total volume though, Illinois is crushing other teams in terms of rebounding rate too. Basically this team is absolutely amazing at attacking the glass and getting the vast majority of available rebounds.

Almost every single player on this team that plays is a plus rebounder at their position with the exception of Dra and Ben.

You'd think that, but in all the games we've lost we have had a combination of bricking a lot of 3s and also doing worse than usual in rebounding. Against Maryland we missed 22 3pt shots and still got outrebounded. Conversely, in arguably our best game against Oregon, we shot .552 from 3 and outrebounded them by 12.

Still so weird how badly we rebounded against USC. They really struggle in that area and even without KJ should have dominated the glass. Guess giving up constant layups leads to less defensive rebound opportunities. Wish I could get past that game but hard to do with how badly we dropped the ball at home.

I mostly meant lots more long rebounds for us, much less for them.

Not a negative, just pointing it out. When you're that much of an outlier, there tends to be a few more factors than we try harder than everyone else.
Coach said we could practice rebounding with intensity even during shoot around before the game.

All this hand wringing over shooting percentages, but this is the real key, IMO. As long as we are a team that shoots the ball just okay, we will still win a lot by virtue of having more shots. The difference between a hot-shooting and okay-shooting game for us is winning by 30 points instead of 10 just based on having more looks at the basket.

But when we Maryland/USC ourselves and rebound like garbage, well...

Keep in mind, the worst rebounding team (USC) outrebounded Illinois at Illinois two weeks ago, which is wild.
Rebounding is strongly correlated with effort, and it's no surprise that our two worst rebounding games (and home losses) came when we just didn't have the fire burning for whatever reason.
