I do not get the "trust in Brad" mantra. I have the exact opposite take: prove it, tough guy. Put a tough team out there, and make your critics shut up. Or slink off to North Carolina.

MSU played great and had a great gameplan. They would have beaten most everyone tonight. That said, we really need to fix some things and make some changes and we're just not doing it. Our second half performances are very telling that we just are not making the necessary adjustments. And our rotations are killing us. Lost to a better team than us and unfortunately there's becoming a lot of those lately.

Plain and simple, we missed on several transfers this year and our coaching just hasn't been able to get our team where it needs to be. At this point, goal needs to be to get some continuity going to next year, and coaching the kids emwho are going to be part of that up the best we can. We'll make the tourney this year, but us winning 2 in a row will be a challenge, let alone 6.
I feel much differently. If our players were properly coached on how to defend screens, if we had well prepared offensive sets with proper screens and players understanding how to play off these screens, and if we didn't have the braindead substitution patterns, we compete through and win this game. It's not fair to absolve Brad of responsibility for effing this game up by attributing this loss to anything other than factors that were fully within his control.

Brad and Tyler every time we pass it to Morez or Tomi for an easy basket after going 3/14 from 3 in the first half after starting 3/4.

I can just keep reusing this comment about every game! Thanks for saving me some time!

Last year also had some bad losses. And, of course the Uconn embarrassment. If not for TSJ playing out of his mind the last 8 games or so, we would not have made the Elite 8.

This season sucks bad.
Go watch the John groce era and tell me this season sucks. We are going to win 20 games AGAIN. Did we lose in a bad way tonight? Absolutely. Should we fire the guy that has brought us back to relevancy hell no.

Brad is our guy, but he has probably elevated the Illinois brand higher than he can handle, but there is jackshit we can do about it now. I'll be tuning in Tuesday like the rest of you, because we are sick.

For my money, Chris Beard is the best in the business.
For Illinois, this would he my list:
Beard
Miller
Gates

But again, let's worry about it in April.

Trying to gather my thoughts and thinking of the best case scenario, even though glaring issues remain. Thinking big men specifically

- Tomi was not himself
- Ben has never been an answer/reliable against high level teams like MSU
- Morez… after that block and hard fall, things didn’t seem the same. He moved fine but that was a turning point IMO
- Will is great offensively as we know, but in terms of having an inside threat, eh

We’re one of the youngest teams in D1 this year. None of this excuses issues that also need to be fixed, because we could’ve made adjustments to win this game regardless.

This clearly can’t be on the players, given everything mentioned above. The last 5 minutes in particular were the ugliest I’ve seen this season. End quote.

Edit: Shoutout to Morez all game. That looked like a direct chin shot and not sure how that affected his tenacity. He was a beast all game prior🔥

Guards were just gassed, need more rotation it’s that simple. The real issue though IMO is lack of a true 3, Tre White has to get back on the floor and be the X factor this season. Ride or die because we need that cutter. When Will runs Point, I really like that as well but he doesn’t have the gas/experience to run a full game either. Plenty of easy thoughts, cmon Brad 😑

Someone tell me again how the 3 is more efficient and a better shot. Whenever we shoot over 30 3’s we play like crap.
If we hit them at a reasonable rate, that would be a lot of points.

But we don't... 😔

I’m a decently positive fan on this site, and I very freely admit I have a buzz and I’m letting the emotions of this game get to me … but as someone who’s never even KIND OF lost faith in Brad, I no longer support him. Sorry. This was an inexcusable loss due to nothing more than hubris and stubbornness, and I have zero faith that Brad (A) understands that or (B) would have the humility to change.

Thanks for everything, and I mean that fully. Throw the warche$t at someone else if we’re going to be shackled to fixed lineups and game plans that we settled on in August due to NIL commitments.

I'm trying not to overreact.....as I thought maybe I did after USC....but it seems that performance was foreshadowing what we've been watching since that game.

I'm gonna look up tickets for the Sean Miller Express. Maybe we are getting closer to the last stop on the BU Train?

I’m worried we aren't going to recover from this one. The team looked so off. The energy was bad. The crowd was frustrated.

It’s obvious at this point that Brad values his ego more than a team, or a season. So no one is stepping in to help us. It will be like this every game on out for the rest of the season.

Had me all excited that Brad would truly be a candidate for UNC...

Now I have to hope Miami throws him a 💰 so we can bring in Sean Miller...

We just ran out of gas, plain and simple. DGL should be getting more minutes. I don’t understand the lack of playing time.
I agree that Illinois looked gassed in the latter part of the game. MSU runs actual sets which force the defenders to fight through multiple picks. I felt this took a big toll on the 7 man rotation.

Outside of Penn State, this is the most infuriating end of game finish/execution I can remember as far as my memory goes. Literally ZERO points the final 8:30 of game time, and 19 straight misses.

.... Like, what???
Now some of it is just awful luck (as much as we don't want to recognize). Right off the top of my head I can remember 2 or 3 literal layups that just popped out. And then Ivisic misses a one and one.

But man... something is just broken for that to happen...

A good coach makes adjustments like maybe saying don’t shoot the three maybe try for a two and get on a hit streak? Too many teams today play the three ball and totally give up on the 10 foot jumper. The game is not fun to watch like that. Through those stupid analytics out the door and coach! If your not making in game adjustments then what are you doing?

I leave this question to the group. At what point do we admit that we overrated our talent, outside of Morez and DGL, we have no athleticism and we have no depth?

I despise the three point barrage like everyone else, but 4 of your last 29........that's 1000000% on the players.

KJ, our lottery pick, with another 5/15 performance. Ivisic was BRUTAL tonight.

I get the Ben thing, I get the Brad thing, I get not liking the assistants, but when do we look at the roster and say..... they're just not what we hoped. We tried to put an entire roster together in three months....we have a decent team, but not a particularly good one.

Early in the year, when we were torching nets and winning, it was great. This was the philosophy going in. One in, four out, shoot 35% and hit the final four.

There were a LOT of us who know what live by the three and die by the three looks like. This is it.

I look up and down that stat sheet and outside of Morez.....nobody played well.
Such a weird season. We have no depth but Ty redshirted because of all our depth..

Brad’s success is due to Kofi and Shannon. If he doesn’t have iconic players,he’s quite middling. And even this year he’s got 1 lotto pick and another likely 1st, and it’s a mid pack Big 10 team.

Simply isn’t good enough
