FACTS: With 8:29 left in the game Ben Hummer scored to make it 65-64 Illinois
Then Illinois missed their last 19 shots from the floor, and their 1 free throw.
Illinois did not score in the last 8:29 of the game. Now THAT'S elite! In the meantime Michigan State scored but 15 points to win 79-65. Decent defensive effort by the Illini down the stretch.

A couple of observations:
The smothering double team effort by Michigan State on KJ outside the three point line stopping most of KJ's attempted drives to the basket was a killer. KJ spent huge amounts of energy dribbling into and out of the double teams and was gassed by the end of the game as witnessed by his last four feeble missed three pointers.

Michigan State's offense is a thing of beauty giving every player chances to drive uncontested to the rim. It seems that Illinois runs one high post play for the whole game and good teams like Michigan State will always figure it out and will shut it down in the second half. I don't know who the offensive coordinator is for Michigan State, but we should offer him the highest salary of any OC in the country plus a beach house.

Ben Hummer continues to play good defense but gets eaten alive by skilled F/C opponents 2 to 6 inches taller than him. Can't fault him for that.

Where is Waldo, er Tre White?

Who had Tomislav Ivisic with 4 points in 30 minutes and Action Jaxon Kohler with 23 points in 30 minutes.

BTW, we were 7 for 33 three pointers, a lousy 21.2%, and missed our last 11 in crunch time.

Did I mention we scored 24 points in the second half.

Final Four quality team? Hmm.

We got punked in our house by a mediocre Sparty team that can't shoot for S&^t, WTF is going on with this team. Our defense in the second half was pathetic, scary thing is our offense was worse
Team is broken. Either doesn’t listen or doesn’t trust the coaches. Horrendous game planning by the coaching staff will lead to this

Honestly I think it’s Brads ego and stubbornness. The more the public tells him he shouldn’t be playing >30 mins the more Brad wants to do it.

Brad should drop the “every day guys” slogan. Seems like our roster is not built with players like that and he almost refuses to play the guys who actually are. IMO, he thinks he’s a better coach than he actually is and has convinced this years team that their the damn Harlem Globetrotters.

Is it possible that there was no trial run / rehearsal re the banner drop earlier today?
I mean good lord, terrible.

Can Underwood not take a lesson from Josh coming out in front of the jersey situation- Dude didn't hang the jersey but took all accountability for the mishap and owned it, apologized for it, and took it on the chin.

And then you get Brad saying, golly gee, I have no idea why we were forcing so many 3's. Are you freakin kidding me?? I sure as heck know why, I recall too many press conferences and interviews to count where you said "this team shoots the cover off it" "we shot 30, I wish we shot 50" "keep shooting em" and on and on and on. Or the countless times a player has shot a TERRIBLE 3 early in the shot clock with no movement of the ball and you DO NOTHING. BRAD, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM... TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND YOUR COACHING. I didn't think I could possibly get more mad, but somehow I am.

well, a couple insiders. The polly anna insiders haven't yet chimed in.

The problem is that all the talk about next year, which started in the spring even, may be blowing up. I can't believe White is coming back. Did BU's presser convince DGL that this is where he wants to be? Booth? Of course not. So you've got to convince Tomi, Morez, and Davis to hang around.

My biggest problem with the way BU is using Ben is that it sends all the wrong signals to the team.

I'm going to need to rewatch the Loyola game to get rid of the bad taste of this one.

This 100%.

The standard of a good coach can’t be “better than the worst coach we’ve ever had”

Whitman is a winner who is willing to do what it takes to win.

MSU would beat the Illini 9 out of 10 games. The reason is simple. Illini go around every screen and open them up to an eight to ten foot shot on every possession. MSU jumped the Illini ball handler every time in the same scenario. .Izzo realizes one point in each possesionwill beat Illinois because they miss so many threes. Even the Indiana coach was smart enough to play a zone against them.

I missed the game

Reviewing scoring chart and think I am reading wrong...it shows an epic Illini scoring crash/drought at end?

shows our last points were at the 8:32 mark left in 2d half (ben jumper giving us a 65 to 64 lead)....and MSU finished on a 15 -0 run....

..that can't be right??? If so an Epic crash finish for us:(
