Illinois a 5 seed in the Bracket Matrix

Illinois #18 in the NET Rankings

Big Ten Tournament Bracket Generator
This seems bizarre given the season we are having. We feel like a 10 seed.

I'd keep in mind that not all of these brackets have been updated since the MSU game. If you go to Bracket Matrix you can see that there are a lot of 5-seed and even some 3-seed and 4-seed predictions pulling the average down that were last updated on 2/15 or earlier. A lot of the more recent brackets have us at 6 or 7, and our average is 5.67 putting us at the lowest lowest ranked 5-seed. I think it's likely Bracket Matrix will have us as a 6-seed relatively soon, possibly even a 7.

would 2 more wins lock in the 7 seed? At this point you don't want the 10 seed you have to play the 15 seed and thats a no upside game. The 7/10 or 8/9 should be all quad 1 chances.

Idk for sure, but it feels like it would. It's a tough stretch of five games and I think 2-3 is kind of the expected result as far as the predictive analytics go.

We’ll probably end up a 6 seed or so, and should be good enough, even if we’re not shooting well, to beat an 11. Then we should have a chance to ruin some 3-seed’s year by busting out an Oregon-style performance and leaving them scratching their heads how “a team like that could possibly be a 6!?”

Then we will lose our next game by 25 because we all know we can’t string two good games together.

Without Morez, I'd bet on a 9-10 seed.

Impressive situation: a projected seed in the NCAA tournament that is higher than the seed our current 7th place in the B1G standings would give us in the B1G tournament.

With seven quad 1 wins we won't be denied entry into the tournament. The consequence could be we get a double digit seed. The bubble teams this year are bad and a lot of them won't have the metric and resume that will be better than ours. There are still plenty of Quad 1 opportunities to end the conference season. Just got to hope for the best.

The reality is that there’s not a big difference between the quality of teams in the 5-10 seed range. I don’t even see a risk of dropping to 8-9 since we have the luxury of other teams have just as abysmal performances without the resume that we have. There have been a ton of epic collapses.

Yeah probably my natural pessimism but I'm not seeing these higher seeds coming to fruition. Happy as always to be wrong. And please keep us out of the 8-9 game, if any karmic being still has sympathy for the Illini.

I think that IL will do better than an 8-9 but I would not be afraid of an 8-9. Get some momentum, beat the number one seed, and then cruise onward to the final four from there.

One more win guarantees Illinois a NCAA TOURNAMENT BID! 18 regular season wins. They can lose in the conference tournament and be 18-14 and 10-10 during the regular season. If they lose their remaing games and go 17-14 and/or 17-15 with a conference tournament lose then they have no business in the NCAA TOURNAMENT, PERIOD! That would remind you of Bruce Weber last year where they started 14-3 and finished 17-14.
