The comment comes early around the 2:10 mark.Didn’t catch it but we ain’t got a couple Cooper Flagg’s walking through the door … I can promise you that …

I've been plenty critical of Brad and his stad and I like Chester for what he did as a player and I think he would be a far better defensive coach than Hamer.Exactly Chester left because of the way Brad treated his recruits like Epps . If Brad does well in recruiting and players like him why did Sincere and Hansberry leave with Chester instead of staying at Illinois. That should tell you all you need to know about Brad and who is really doing the recruiting
Illinois basketball, 1978-79 season. Illinois just beat No.1 MSU, and now 13-0. Played Ohio State 2 days later (was at the game). Lost on a bad inbound play in overtime. Forgot the guard, but he drove to the sideline, got double teamed, turned it over, layup for OSU win. Finished the season 19-11 with no NCAA bid.I'm trying to think of a comparable team, pro or college, in any sport, to just collapse midseason like this.
The 2024 Bears?
Sounds like a "Canadian Girlfriend" situation from someone desperate to prove their future worth in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary. In the post game comments, Brad was talking about Flagg and said something like "we've got a couple of those coming in". Did anyone else catch that, and who would he be talking about?
gotta assume that the one sitting in the courtside seats 10 ft from the bench saw about all he needed last night. It’s a hurdle but with revenue sharing coming we cannot afford to take a step back after last year and be missing the tournament …
Josh will be PROACTIVE … Not REACTIVE …
We have some VERY large donors that are NOT happy …
Thank you for the info, Indy. To your point about BU being a Top 10 paid coach (below). Josh can’t treat him much better than this.Yes … All of this true …
Also - Josh doesn’t respond very well to “extension and more $$$ or else” …
Saying he didn't want Domask is an insane statement. 6'6 wing, and perennial all conference player that would have been a 2000 pt scorer at SIU if he wasn't injured as a sophomore.Brad even admitted he didn’t want Domask when the rest of his staff did. Brad has absolutely no idea what he’s doing and mark my words he will eventually be fired in the next couple of seasons or leave for another Job.
Who was that?gotta assume that the one sitting in the courtside seats 10 ft from the bench saw about all he needed last night.
Playoofs? Playoffs? It’s crazy that at this point I’ll be excited with 1 win in the tournament. I’ll pop some champagne for it. 2 and making it to the Sweet 16 would be a miracle.
The main problem I see with firing Brad is that the UNC, Indiana and possibly Kansas jobs will be opening up and any "elite" coaching candidates are gonna prefer those spots to our position. How about Porter Moser type?Just thinking out loud here:
Kansas would be the domino we don’t want falling…prolly right? Kansas is most likely to just straight-up hire a cutthroat killer and not even pretend to worry about sketchy reps/optics.
The Tarholes are too up their own butt with their hires…and it causes them to make underwhelming choices…
It’s not unlike the old head fan contingent at Bloomington…
They’d ideally like to make their hire with some sort of six degrees type connection back to Dean/Bobby if at all possible.
Yes per Brads own mouth he told Tyler and other assistants he was not interested in Marcus until he saw the results of a personality trait test he took. Then he was all in on him, but not at first.Saying he didn't want Domask is an insane statement. 6'6 wing, and perennial all conference player that would have been a 2000 pt scorer at SIU if he wasn't injured as a sophomore.
Saying Brad has no clue what he's doing is also a bit extreme. I think he definitely needs to gain some humility from this season and rework his staff but you don't move on from Brad unless you have a clear upgrade and that's a fairly short list. Meaning you better have a handshake agreement with a guy like Beard or McCasland.
Maybe Brad will wear out his welcome at some point but the truth is that we could do much much worse. Do you really want someone like Cronin or Kevin Willard?
Not true. KJ and WR were closely guarded beyond the 3 point line.Every three Illinois took was wide open because Duke packed it in and knows Illinois can't makes threes.
The most confusing thing about this whole season is all of these guys came in being able to shoot (except maybe Tre). It absolutely blows my mind that an entire group of players just forgets how to shoot the ball. They've collectively lost confidence and everyone seems more focused on just shooting the shot and not concentrating on MAKING the shot.
Interesting. I hadn’t heard that. Sure makes me wonder what a guy like Matthew Mayer or Jayden Epps or Skyy Clark…or RJ Melendez or…(for giggles Pods) might have scored on said test.Yes per Brads own mouth he told Tyler and other assistants he was not interested in Marcus until he saw the results of a personality trait test he took. We are past the Webber Groce years and the program is in decent shape with the money we have getting a great coach is not going to be an issue.
Guessing you have not been watching Willard take Brad to the wood shed the past few years. do not like him but he can coach
It was my assumption they all take this test, but Mayer might have taken a few Monster's beforehand.Interesting. I hadn’t heard that. Sure makes me wonder what a guy like Matthew Mayer or Jayden Epps or Skyy Clark…or RJ Melendez or…(for giggles Pods) might have scored on said test.

Better prepare yourself for no NCAA tournament, because I can't see the committee including a 17-15, 9-11 B10 team that has lost 8 of 11 since beginning of Feb. I just have a hard time seeing that. Why don't we let the season play our before we start this ridiculous conversation? We have three conference games left, the BTT and the NCAA. I get that the last three have been rough and it's the day after a beating. That said, if we win 2 of the next 3, then 2 games in the BTT and a couple of games in the NCAAT.....the same people who are screaming for his head now will be the same people crying if he leaves.
Quit the drama, let the season play out and let's see the the direction they take. My opinion, he stays, but a couple of the assistants get gutted. I can guarantee you that this will be the last time he goes this young. That was a flat out bad decision. He gave in to a theory that just isn't his style and it's showing.
Maybe Brad meant he had two guys coming in from Maine?Didn’t catch it but we ain’t got a couple Cooper Flagg’s walking through the door … I can promise you that …
To me TA looms largest over it all. Losing him and the players he brought in, and those he would have brought in the future, is going to haunt us more than we think (IMO of course). This will be a bit long but I feel like it’s the decision we made to get OA back over retaining Chester and his guys. I’m not saying I don’t want Orlando back or that Chester leaving wasn't the right thing for everyone. I fully acknowledge I don’t know all the interpersonal dynamics between admin, coaches, and players.
As a passionate fan, it seems this is how things might’ve played out if we prioritized maintaining a critical mass of guys “raised” in our proven EDG culture instead of pushing them out for unproven talent.
Potential steps to maintain EDG culture and toughness for on court consistency.
1. You (over)pay/retain Coleman for leadership and cultural continuity. He’s a glue guy that does everything and makes winning plays. You promise him he only plays the 4 and keep that promise. CH mentoring Morez would’ve been huge. Imagine them together down low!
2. You retain Chester and make him D coordinator at the start of this season. Our D was terrible last year and that change should’ve been made going into this year.
3. I’m extending TA’s contract. Dude got you TSJ and Mayer…that’s the reason you made the tourney 2 years ago and what led to the E8 run last year. Also got you Morez; I’m just paying and retaining him no matter what.
4. You accept Jeremiah Fears as a reclass because relationships matter and it’s the right thing to do. See Bret’s staff and how they prioritize relationships.
Team could look like the below…with a focus on nonstop pressuring the rim on O, hard nose D across the boards, and intense rebounding on both ends.
Starters
Jeremiah Fears
Kylan Boswell
Ty Rodgers
Coleman Hawkins
Morez Johnson
Rotation
DGL
Sencire Harris (might’ve left regardless, if so replace in portal)
Amani Hansberry (same as above)
Portal 5
I assume Luke, Dain, and Nico still portal; might’ve been able to keep Luke and I would’ve tried. Also, assume no Will, KJ, Tomi, Jake, Ben, Tre, or Booth. We only take 2-3 guys out of the portal, and pay our guys and preserve our winning culture. Probably cost neutral or cheaper than the current roster.
Again, relational dynamics might’ve made this impossible, but at times, I can’t help but wonder if this would’ve been the better approach this year. How long will it take to rebuild our EDG culture and toughness?
