I talked to a source this morning … Don’t be surprised if K State pulls the plug on Tang if they know they can get Brad …

K State, Texas, and South Carolina are the main jobs that I’ve heard Brad would have a legit shot at and the ones he’d actually want …
Let's say one of these happened... What do you see O and Geoff doing? Obviously, we don't care about the rest lol.

Excited Super Bowl GIF by downy

JW doesn’t strike me as a guy that would let something like this take him by surprise. i suspect that the backchanneling is already in progress

wouldn’t be a candidate for us this cycle, but valpo has doubled their win total from last season in roger powells second season at the helm. would love to see him back at some point if he’s able to continue to win

K-State and Texas don't seem to be surprising. South Carolina at least seems plausible. If Barnes retires at Tennessee, would Underwood be in play there? As we've talked about before, Tennessee and Texas seem to be similar programs.

If those programs are in play and I'm Whitman, I ask Brad point-blank if he intends to make any staff changes and if retaining Tyler is a non-negotiable. If it is, I honestly don't know how much of an effort I would make to retain Underwood. Maybe I'm looking at things with too much optimism, but I honestly feel like the program is in a place where a coach of Underwood's ability is the floor for the next search. We have great NIL money, are in the Big Ten, football is on the upswing (let's be honest - this is not an insignificant factor in the current collegiate athletics landscape), and Josh Whitman is a highly-regarded athletic director. I know nothing is certain, but I just don't think Illinois goes back to the Weber/Groce years.

I don't particularly WANT to see Underwood move on as long as he's willing to make the needed changes. But if he basically says "Plan A, but better" to address what has happened this season, I'm not going to be nearly as upset if he leaves as I was when Self left.

To be honest, it’s not a bad business decision by BU for the same reasons we wouldn’t want to wait until the program completely derails. If he starts losing donor support and can’t secure NIL funding, he could reach a point where other programs wouldn’t want to touch him.

Would depend on who he hired …

I think O and Fletch could stay … O it would mainly depend on the coach … Think Fletch stays no matter what … He has a job at Illinois as long as he wants it … Think everyone else would likely be gone …

these are lateral/downgrade programs at best. if he's truly exploring this....so i guess it's just things haven't gone the way he hoped? particularly this year?

is there any type of success the remainder that would cut off his interests of exploring elsewhere?

Whitman always has a list and he’s always ready to go into search mode … He doesn’t have to do a lot of back channeling as he is so well connected that people do a lot of the leg work for him to find out candidates interest, cost, etc. …

K State is not a downgrade financially for Brad or NIL wise …

From what I was told this AM … They are prepared to more or less match what he makes here and they already have more NIL than we do and if they bring Brad back … That number is only going to increase …

I know this season hasn't gone as planned, but this :poop: better not fall flat on our face

Certainly hope so.

Yikes. Did not expect this. Even though they ponied up for Coleman, I figured he/we just really wanted to move on last year. Really hope a new staff could change this.

Point being... it seemed (to my fairly uneducated perception at least) that he was fairly happy with his time here, situation and what he has built... after coming off the E8 last year.

It is one bad year (but not terrible - not like Michigan last year), but seems like times and heads have drastically changed.

I guess his agents exploring these options just say it all...

This is what keeps worrying me

I keep hearing about this random program and that random program 'they have more NIL than we do'

So with NIL are we top 10? 20?

Someone posted a link to a poll of current sitting college basketball coaches and that had us somewhere around #10, but I've heard 'they have more NIL than we do' about so many programs now that there is just no way we are top 10 in NIL if we are looking up at St John's, BYU, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oregon, IU and so on and then you have all of the blue blood schools as well

Though we obviously were able to buy enough talent this year (regardless of that talent having been wasted at this point)

How in the world can Kansas State have more NIL than Illinois? Are farms in Central Kansas really that much more valuable?

This infers Brad is losing interest in being at Illinois?

There is no sport more entertaining and engaging for a full calendar year than college basketball has been since the NIL era. Do a summer circuit and it would be 365 days of entertainment.
