At this rate Dan's going to have to close and re-set this Coaching Carousel thread on a daily, rather than weekly, basis.
but the fire is pretty and I don't mind getting burnedThis board has a bad case of lighting the match then wondering why the moths scurry to the flame.
This thread has taken off lol
I think this is my biggest worry if we were to part ways with Brad for some reason this year. There are a lot of big name jobs potentially coming open. There are at least some rumors that Self and Izzo would be considering retirement soon, too.If Illinois, IU, UNC, K-Sate ... who knows with Alabama or KU or some of the others.... all open up this year, that's a pretty hefty spot to find your coach.
Josh has proven to earn the faith...
That is a severe understatement. I am not calling for a head coaching change at the moment, but it is more like a bad couple of months. It is now 2 out of last 3 years with major performance issues. Illnesses are the the root of the problem right now, IMO.Wow, a bad couple games with sick freshman and we are wanting to blow up what took 5+ years to build. It reminds me of when the Cubs blew up their front office once they won (I'm a Cardinal fan). We need to relax, finish the season and learn. I want Brad to stay personally.

Fair point, but what's on Illinois' plate if Brad and his agents are full-fledged searching mid season? If this does come to fruition, I'll see it as way more of a mutual of ways than a force out. Plus, those "bad couple games" - it's an underwhelming situation to Brad's side as well. This has not gone according to plan for anybody.Wow, a bad couple games with sick freshman and we are wanting to blow up what took 5+ years to build. I've been having the exact same thoughts. I think the real answer is that no one really knows for certain, and it varies from year to year.
I'm trying to square this with statements I think you have made in the past where you've said we are top-10 NIL. I find it kind of hard to believe K-State is top 10 in the country in NIL.

Good for Coleman.I think we are consistently top 10-15 NIL …
For this years roster … K State spent top 10 NIL money … Slightly more than we did …
If we are spending top 10 dollars on a coach and NIL, it stands to reason we ought to be making the second weekend more often than not if we want to claim we are getting our money's worth. For how much we spend it shouldn’t take 5+ years to get to the 2nd weekend … IMO …
I have ultimate confidence in Josh, while I don’t know how hard he’ll fight to retain BU, regardless of how this year ends, I’m just bullish on Illini basketball.
I still think letting BU go under most circumstances is neither a good look or ideal for the program.
this cycle is going to be massive. I just don’t want to be the program without a chair when the music stops.

While I trust Josh based on his decisions thus far, there are zero guarantees this happens, in fact, with the prospective upheaval in the coaching ranks for this year, there is a greater likelihood that the pickin's are indeed slim for candidates. Regardless of what we here on Loyalty think, Champaign-Urbana is not seen as a destination, and while Illinois is a top tier university with a strong basketball tradition, many of the potential vacancies are as good or better. That is a severe understatement. If Brad leaves for a lateral job, that is fine with me. Josh has proven able to adapt, and the resources Illinois has is strong. We will find somebody equal or better than Underwood.
This is very true. To put in perspective, we had Ayo, Kofi, and TSJ (Ayo and Kofi at same time for one run), and we only have one second weekend tourney appearance. It is quite remarkable to have three jerseys placed in the rafters and only one trip out of the first weekend. Have to think with some better x's and o's we at least have two to three deeper runs.Bingo … Our ROI so far has been… Underachieving with All Americans outside of 1 year …
One 2nd weekend … And we got blown out in the Elite 8 … And it’s year freaking 8 and we’re getting 50 pieced on National TV … Worst loss in program history …
UNACCEPTABLE !!!!
