I certainly noticed how much love they gave to each other in the handshake line. But I'm struggling to wrap my brain around a B1G assistant jumping from one conference team to another. I'd love it if Illinois could land both Boynton (for recruiting) and Yaklich (for coaching acumen).

Coaches jump all the time … Especially assistants … Head coach is a little different in conference but assistants … No big deal …

I think there’s a very real chance we could get both …

Nothings changed for all the things Brad is great at the the fact remains the x and o's, the in game adjustments, calling timeouts when necessary are mediocre at best there will 7 or 8 coaches available this off season that would strengthen the basketball program considerably. I have to think most of us on here would like to see the basketball program reach its potential. Right now it's not there, it's merely really good And Brad is to be thanked for that he's done a good job. Do we want good or do we want to be one of the best 8 or 10 basketball programs in the nation, a yearly final four contender and even a national championship every once in a while. Now let's beat Purdue and win this Big Ten Tournament. ILL!
Too soon

I think Jules is an extreme Brad cult member who created a burner account to make the Fire Braders look completely delusional and unhinged thus cutting the legs from under the movement.

It's actually brilliant.
That would be some second level CIA type of maneuver. I’d be impressed w him if that was the case.

I think ThaKid was doing that for the opposite reason.

i was getting down on underwood, i admit, but what a road win yesterday. i do think one second weekend appearance in 8 or 9 years is not good enough at illinois (i know we just went a ridiculous/unacceptable 19 years between appearances), so i am hoping he can get there again this year. it's starting to look more and more possible.

LOL! It does seem like Jules is ThaKid's alter ego. One is glass is almost empty...the other is glass is about to overflow with Orange Kool-Aid!

or an extreme bruce cult member. i remember novaillinifan, illinijohn, and peoriaman from the old scout board would post often on the ksu scout board to cheer him on.

1. 8th in the country in PPG, 26th in scoring margin, top 20 in Offensive efficiency. Been that way for awhile just because the X and O's are different than what a lot of fans are accustomed to and the adjustments off that are different and slight doesn't mean they aren't good/aren't happening.
2.What 7 or 8 coaches are going to be available that would strengthen the basketball program?
3. Do you understand how challenging it is to be a final 4 contender every year? Kansas hasn't been since 2022, MSU 2019 Arizona 2001, Kentucky 2015

I think what many people miss is that most of us want BU to prove us wrong. However, there's little evidence that he can consistently lead us deep into the tournament. I'm not saying he's a bad coach—I just don't believe he's the one to elevate us to the next level. I don't envy his position with this team; just when I’m ready to write them off as "dead in the water," they pull off a stunning 20-point road win during Michigan's Senior Day.

I can easily see us exiting in the first round, yet there are moments when I watch us and envision a Final Four run. I'll never stop rooting for these guys. I've been watching Illinois games with my dad for over 40 years, and now my son has started to get into it too. We're all hungry for a national championship, and will come to the board to give our crazy emotional takes at times, but my love of the Illini will never change.

@illini0440 As a dad, I get how tough it could be to come to this conclusion, but do you feel that Brad has come to grips with the fact that Tyler has to either take a job somewhere else or be demoted here?
You must not see me post once a week telling people Tyler isn't going to be fired or demoted. But Why should he? We are 8th in PPG, top 20 in offensive efficiency and that's with career shooting lows from our guys. Offense was pretty good last year too. It's Tyler, Geoff and Brad collectively doing the heavy lifting on offense....Not just Tyler. Also Tyler is pretty cheap in terms of assistants and Brad isn't going to fire or demote his son and come home to Susan and deal with that lol

Yeah, I don't like the nepo thing, and I was down on Tyler earlier when we were in the depths of our losing streak, but it's a lot easier to justify making changes with Hamer and Kwa at this point. We are #14 in the county in offensive efficiency according to Kenpom. We are #34 in defense. The offense has been inconsistent, but when it's worked it has been great. It does look like adjustments have been made. I mean, who would have thought we would be able to score so many points in the paint against Michigan and their two bigs, especially with Rez out? Great game plan offensively, and we put in a dominating performance.

Jeez man enough already, the guy literally led us to the Elite 8 last year. Our first one in 20 years at that.

There's not a single coach in the country that "consistently leads teams deep in the tourney". It's a single elimnation tounrment that by design is extremely high variance and unpredictable Bill Self has made the S16 once in the last six seasons (championship year). First 10 years of Matt Painter's career Purdue made the S16 only twice. Scott Drew has made it to the second weekend once in the last 7 years (championship year). Bruce Pearl has made the second weekend once his entire tenure at Auburn. Rick Barnes has made it to the S16 three times in 9 seasons.

1. If UNC opens up, there could be 7-8 candidates before coming to Brad but these guys are NOT flocking to ILL.
2. Brad might not be the best X and O's coach but I am not sure Bill Self was better than him when he was at ILL. Also, how many years had Self been choking in the tournament before he got the championship?
3. See above.
4. I think this year has been more about morphing a new group together/illness rather than X and O's. For example, we thought we are a good 3 pt shooting team until we realize we weren't.

He did well enough last year. Threw in a different region, we could have very well hit the final four then. I don't know about other people and I expected some speed bumps this year with all the new faces. Getting into the 2nd week will meet my expectation. Actually, they will accomplish as much as the Kofi team if they only win one game. I simply don't expect a coach to get to final four with a brand new team (could happen but not the norm.) I hope they get a "franchise player" can do that next year but that guy has to be real good.
