I read the MSU game thread about our game which was a mix of insults about Illinois and then rooting against Michigan.
Then I saw this MSU fan make this claim:

Does MSU even make our top 3 of hated teams? We mainly dislike Izzo and his whining.
MSU thinking they're higher on our target list than they are. Their level of self importance versus what they really are is misaligned.

Personally, I dislike Fichigan more and Iowa even more. Probably don't speak for all Illini fans.

It’s a shame Brad lost the locker room
I took a break from this board for a couple weeks. I get the feeling, from several posts, that I made a good decision. A couple people recently (casual fans) asked me what happened to The Illini. I tell them, "If I told you what this team has dealt with for the last 6-8 weeks, I would sound like I am one of those fans that just makes excuses". I am looking forward to the torunaments.

Yes, such a great change indeed. Before Brad, we were all simply hoping to make the field (or play our way in through the BTT). Now it is all about March, a sentiment of the best programs.

I see "anywhere Kelvin Sampson is" on a few more of these lists than I expected. I was as pissed as everyone else at the time (and for years following) but my disdain towards him has really mellowed the past few years, mostly because of how much fun his Houston teams are to watch. Am I alone in this?

For whatever it's worth, my hatred for Bruce Pearl burns unabated. I hope he !!!!! his pants every day for the rest of a foreshortened life.

Because it was their senior day. They chose to celebrate a game early presumably to have it on a weekend. Saw speculation it was when Goldins family could be there.
The Goldins were there? Had Kevin Harlan not told me what seemed like 30 times and they had a club seating shot of them at least once every segment between media timeouts, I would have never guessed.

(I normally really like Kevin Harlan, but his constant references to Goldin's parents being there got old pretty quickly. We get it, Kevin. Just go back to calling the game.)

About as annoying as Jim Jackson calling Morez, “Montrez” in the pre-game show and then Jay Wright repeating Montrez several times. It was hurting my ears.

Also, outside of 1e, that has to be the weirdest Illini fan hate list ever.

I dunno. I kinda liked how, with every shot of them, their faces grew longer and longer and longer.

Are we still throwing Hamer under the bus or it that on pause?
On pause. I think Brad made some suggestions. I am in the boat of, please adjust the game plan to fit our personal if plan A or plan B didn't work. It is obvious the defense has made the correct adjustments allowing this team to just play D and not have to over think the defense side of the game. They can just play. That is what we have seen the last 2 games, and I think the adjustments by the staff is what we all wanted and now, lets raise the floor of this team based on the game plan alone. Looking to see where we are really at when PurDon't comes to town.

Annoying for me as well (like other things). I don't to want get in trouble, but I liked it from one very imporant perspective.

Sampson has earned his disdain, but in the big picture Pearl hurt us a lot more than Sampson. Agree in principle but can't enjoy watching Houston so soon after they bounced us out of the tournament.

Took years of therapy to be able to say Austin Peay again...

1998 graduate of Illinois, lifelong fan, and I grew up in the Quad Cities. Here's the list.

1. Iowa
2. Indiana
3. Any team Bruce Pearl coaches
4. Missouri
5. Any team Kelvin Sampson coaches

I used to hate Arizona, but that kind of went away after Lute left. Teams like Michigan, UNC and UConn that have beaten us in big NCAA games usually has my distate go away after a season (but I still can't stand Dan Hurley). Those five teams will pretty much stay constant.
That is a pretty solid list.

Y’all are crazy if Missouri isn’t in your top 2
I feel the mark of delineation here is somewhere around the year 2000. From what I've seen, if you attended Illinois and were a big Illini fan sometime in the 80s and 90s Mizzou will be rated highly, but for the fans who attended Illinois and were big Illini fans from 2000 on, the games simply didn't hold as much weight because we won 9 straight in that time and went 14-4 even during down years. So my guess is for fans under the age of around 40 Mizzou is just looked at as a team you should beat every year. Or in other words, they're looked at as much as a basketball rival as Mizzou would consider us a football rival.

I doubt MSU would even make Top 5 most hated team from the average Illinois fan if you made a poll.

In the B10 alone, Indiana and Iowa are assuredly at the top of the list. Younger fans might bring up Michigan or Purdue. Maybe someone out there says a Northwestern. Then in non-con, Mizzou is up there. I've personally felt more hate for both Arizona and Kansas in my life than MSU. Hell, throw UNC in there also. Our older fans also likely might have Kentucky on the list. I don't know if all 10 of those teams would be the Illini nation consensus Top 10, but yeah, MSU wouldn't make the cut for me, which is sort of strange considering our 2 teams owned the B10 in my early to mid 00s college years, but yeah, never really hated them.
I'm in complete agreement. MSU has never been on my list. I love these threads with "lists". In my almost 50 year Illini history, I had my moments including Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and little NwU in the Big10. Outside the B10: AZ, NC, Pitt, ND...? The only schools that remain are ND for certain and Pitt to a much less extent. We should start a list of the top 3 teams we do NOT want to see win the NC, regardless of reason (that's optional). Mine are Auburn (Pearl), UConn (obviously), and TN (probably just residual effects)

You should add Duke to that list somewhere.

Not at all. I absolutely despised those Indiana teams. And while there is still a hate that lingers for the Hoosiers (which will never die) I'm surprisingly neutral when I see Sampson on tv. Funny enough, I enjoyed watching Eric Gordon in the NBA as well.

That was mostly tongue in cheek but sure a little bit. Reflects on the schools when they hire a known cheater. I mean didn’t he get a show-cause at Tennessee? Should be career-ending but those days, if they ever existed, are long gone.

You want my true #1 just look at my avatar. Never forget 1989…
