Gotta think the crazy minutes our starters have been forced to play are finally catching up to them. Lot of shots coming up short and missed box outs in the 4th quarter. Refs can eat a bag too, as always
Against easier competition, get enough of a lead, not close at end of game.

You just have to play smith and Allen. 8 mins each is doable. Last 2 of 1st into 2nd and 3rd into 4th. switch it up somehow so they are not in the game together. Their effort has been good the last few games, noticeable hustle.

Hustle was there all game except is was noticeable when Nebraska had fresher legs.

Girls played great. Close game, either way, entertaining game.

Rinse and repeat....during good and bad games

I don't blame losing this game on fatigue or fouls. We gave up key offensive boards where no one was checked out, got exposed in the post and couldn't hit a shot in the 4th quarter. Majority of games this season we had a full 2+ days between games. Great teams learn how to finish out games and we are a good squad(nothing wrong with that).

It has been multiple years of not handling pressure well, not checking out on rebounds many times a game, non-existent post game on offense. Shauna Green is an amazing coach but she got outcoached late. There is a reason why Bostic and Brynn shot back to back open 3's(very badly missed), Nebraska with backdoor cut towards end at hoop on Berry, etc.

On season note we definitely overachieved with all the injuries. My goal coming into this season was seeing this squad win at least 1 NCAA Tournament game before the Seniors leave. Still alive.....proud whatever happens!

Nebraska was the far better team today, and that is why the Illini lost. Well this, and also because it was basically their ten players versus the Illini five (gimpy Jasmine & Genesis counting as one). Kendall & Adalia played 40 minutes and Genesis a measly 38 due to a rolled ankle. Fatigue is the Illini's weakness - can't rationalize or pretend it away.

Gotta disagree.

Fatigue definitely played a part in this game. All those things you say we failed to do are all signs of a more fatigued team. We led for something like 34 mins.
A good tired team can get beat by a not so good fresher team. Losing 4 rotation players for the season is not an excuse (Shauna doesn't want to hear excuses) it's a fact. This teams ceiling was greatly diminished when those players were lost. I think you agree that we came close to reaching our ceiling during this regular season. They definitely exceeded my expectations especially after losing Cook and Dolan.

I'm with you on winning 1 game in the NCAA. Like you say especially for these seniors.

Needed more from Brynn. Can't have 2 points and 0 rebounds from her.
Reminded me of Adalia in last years BTT. I think it was last years. Just couldn’t get a bucket, not playing well. Just one of those games.

7th out of 18 in B10 regular season. Darn good. Take out UCLA and USC and we finish 5th out of 14.

Last year team was 8-10 finished 9th out of 14. Added Berry Wallace 9 ppg lost Jade Peebles (7 ppg guard) and Camille Hobby 6ppg center). Lost Makira Jan 8.

Great progress moving up 4 spots in B10 and probably getting into NCAA for 2nd time in 3 years.

Fantastic job by Shauna, staff and players.

Nebraska played on back to back days. They blew out Rutgers and starters saw less time than usual. If we are using fatigue as an excuse for the Nebraska game, than fatigue should also be factored in for Nebraska even if they have a bigger rotation.

Flat out the ladies didn't check out on some key areas and couldn't hit a shot in the 4th quarter. Genesis had a number of wide open looks to tie the game at the end. She missed and won't blame it on fatigue. This team isn't built for conference tourney and playing 3-4 days in a row or every other day because of injuries. Ladies have played on 2+ days rest in all but one game this season. The ladies aren't going to be fresh at minute 38 compared to start of game(same as opponent). Doesn't stop them from certain fundamentals of basketball(such as backcut on Berry for basket on out of bounds play).

I might bring up critical issues I see during the game but that doesn't mean I'm down on this team. No more no less an amazing run by these ladies and incredible job for the whole season by the coaching staff. Shauna is playing the personnel she trusts and riding a short bench. That hasn't changed since she got here and I love it.

Considering the injury luck this year and being confined to a very shallow lineup the ladies did amazingly well this season. With talent coming in the future is bright, though these seniors will be missed.

In the NCAA tournament. I don't think we are play in or bubble team. Thats a big improvement vs past 25 years.

I am sad to see seniors go but so excited about next years roster

Destiny 5'7" 5 star freshman
Ceerah 6'2" 4 star freshman
Manuella 6'3" 4 star freshman
Naomi 4 star 6'2" freshman
Berry McDAA 6'2" as experienced sophomore
Dolan as 5'10" JR
Allen as 5'11" JR

That is good size.

Yes good size and loads of talents, but I'd expect a dropoff next year as they go through the freshman learning process and need to develop chemistry. In 2026, though, watch out.
