Kj could be the only player on the court and he'd lose the orange ball. I prefer BAM and Will with ball.

My takeaways:

The players:
* The team is doing well overall.
* Humrichous is doing very well in his role off the bench.
* DGL seems to be in his own head, and on a very short leash as a result.
* Ivisic still seems a bit off in his touch and conditioning.
* I'm sad that KJ and Riley will not be back next year. They are both playing well enough to go in the first round.
* Boswell is doing nicely on the passing/defense. Time to go shoot 500 3's a day from the top of the key.
* Tre is coming along nicely.

The refs:
We occasionally get some home cooking. As bad as those calls were against KJ (foul vs. block), and DGL (charge), I think we came out well ahead tonight.

The play:
* We had yet another scoring drought as players stopped running the offense in favor of 1:1 hero ball possessions part way through the 2nd half.

Tonight it seemed to start with Riley. He had some nice 1:1s that led to open shots on consecutive possessions, so he kept going even though the shot quality was getting worse and worse each possession. He kept calling for the ball. At some point the team stopped passing it to him and the offense died. I think watching the film on this would be a good learning experience for Riley. I'm not sure what could be done other than a timeout to swap out Riley and let the offense resume. Explain to Riley why he was pulled during the 1-2 possessions he is off the floor.

* We are terrible against the pick and roll. We need to try something else.

* The decision to double down low was a long time coming. When it came, it won the game.

Our off the ball defense can be frustrating to watch. The offense is looking so much better.

Disagree with the reffing. Pretty even both ways. No home cooking. Trey “elbows”-Renn got his share of no calls and calls.

Watching Will Riley grow up this season has been so entertaining. Some NBA team is going to be very happy to grab him, stash him and watch him develop into a star. Wish that development could be here for another year, but it won't be...and good for him.
Gotta give Brad kudos for an under-the-radar move given all of the big plays in the second half. We had the ball out of bounds under our own basket in the second half with only about 3 seconds left on the shot clock. He quickly subbed Riley in, the Illini got him the ball and he hit a quick turnaround jumper from about 15 feet. Also loved that after he came up with that big steal, he started upcourt full-steam ahead, 1-on-3...but he stopped, circled back and gave the ball to KJ.

I’d love to know what happened after the Duke game to get us back to playing closer to normal. It was 3 really ugly losses in a row and it seemed like the season was over. It may just be the extra practice time and getting most of the team over the injuries and sickness, but it seems like it wouldn’t be something that simple.
Well... Will began starting for Ben, Tre got out of the doghouse and reverted back to form as a starter, The coaching staff finally started to draw up effective under the basket plays and they decided that adding cutters going to the net was better than just dribbling behind the three-point line. So yes, not that simple.

Not 100% on the numbers but our 3s went like this.

1st Half
3/3
0/11
1/1
2nd Half
1/8
6/7

That big run they made was during our 0/11 streak in the 1st Half. It drives me crazy, especially when our cuts are so good getting to the basket. It was a great win, made the plays when we had to. I was losing hope when we went down 5 late, but we proved that we could play tough late.

Give me KB, Tre, Morez, Tomi, and Ben (bench role) and fill in the rest. Obviously benching Tre was a mistake as he has become his old self the past few games. We are a completely different team.

Will has found his game and hopefully we can get KJ back to his level from earlier in the season. He can focus more on facilitating and let his shot come back. I have been so impressed with Tomi and Will's chemistry the past few games.

Painter seems to be on track to be the next Izzo with all that whining. I don’t recall an egregious Loyer flop resulting in a foul, only the turrible call on KJ blocking the shot. Heck of a dagger by KJ, I wish he would have pulled out one of Smiths celebrations.
He tried one against Riley, refs didn't buy it. He did however get gifted 6 free throws on two terrible calls on missed three pointers. Wasn't touched on either one but still got 5 points for it. Could have been the reason we lost the game but we overcame it.

Guys, that's his money shot (no porn jokes please.) Has made that in pressure situations before. And will do again.

No one ever seems able to recognize that top class athletes will beat our guys due to their brilliance, not our lack of talent or effort. SMH. Unforgiveable? Jeez. That's pretty sick (bad sick.)

I want to give credit where it's due ... Would have been SO EASY to quit and pack it up after getting absolutely obliterated against Duke ...

This team came together ... We are seeing the best version of Tre White (what I like to call summer Tre) and the best version of Ben tonight ...

Get Morez back in the fold ... We will be cooking with gas ...

My one negative tonight ... The defense ... Hamer has GOT TO GO ... And that is all I will say about that ... Do not want that one negative to outweigh all the positive tonight ...

Anyway we can bring TA back? Or any hope I should say? Or Harrington or anyone who can game plan a defense.

It's interesting where we all are on the Illini spectrum: I wanted that stepback 3. And lucky for me (or all of us, in fact) it tickled the twine.
Me too, And I believe it tickled the twine from 29! A Gonnella Bread great play! The ghost of Red Rush.
