Was at the game. I'm sure it came off on TV by the sound but the arena was covered in orange and blue(with one major section of Kentucky Blue and other Kentucky fans scattered across the arena). But, easily 70-80% of the fans were Illini supporters. We really came out and supported our team and I would expect the same for Sunday(I'm going back and forth on whether I should go again tomorrow).
When I saw Dailyn Swayn going off, all I could think of was uh oh, there goes another average to slightly above average player who is having his career best game against us lol. But, the positive is that Freemantle was limited outside of early on in the game and same with Conwell.
We outrebounded them, we got more assists, we shot blocked, and we shot well from 3 pt range. The only thing we didn't do well was turn the ball over. Really balanced effort and was proud of Boswell, Tomi, KJ, and Riley. Riley woke up like a man possessed in that second half. Loved seeing some of that energy from him getting the crowd amp'd up since he's more of a quieter guy. Morez gave us quality minutes and key dunks when needed. You never felt like they were going to give up the lead even when Xavier went on some of their runs. They always had an answer and that's great to see given the youth on this team.
Two guys I feel for: DGL for barely getting any minutes and Ben Humrichous. DGL getting only 1 minute which was meant to spell someone in the first half is just a complete abomination as far as I'm concerned. This is my only gripe. He's going elsewhere next year and I don't blame the guy one bit. This was my first live game this season and you could really feel that the arena wanted Ben to make a three or make that one shot where he played bully ball and tried to back down his defender. I didn't hear any negative murmurs about him each time he missed a shot. Just sighs. It was honestly the first time all year that I felt truly bad for the guy. I think now that he's coming off the bench, there's no more animosity that he's taking Will's minutes anymore or that he's taking more minutes than he should be. He's honestly in the role he was meant to be and the starting 5 are the ones who should've been starting for a while now.
