Either Brad is offering Boynton a HUGE pay bump, or they're truly best buddies for him to leave a really good situation at Michigan. If he can recruit, I'm here for it, though.

Also, insiders, please tell me Whitman isn't giving Underwood an extension after this frustrating season. (Or at the very least, he gets an extension with a much smaller buyout.)

I am so tired of seeing our perimeter defenders end up trailing their assignment while they drive towards the hoop. It’s effectively a 5-on-4 situation and we gave them up on so many possessions this year.

Once again Gentry isn't coming back.
Also why do you want Sean Harrington? Because he provides basketball analysis on Twitter?
While the specifics can be debated, the overall concept of the frustration is clear. This staff needs a clear upgrade in tactical strength. This is particularly important on the defensive side.

My three biggest hopes for the staff this offseason are:

1) Two new assistants-one who is a defensive tactics expert and one who is either a good guard developer or talent evaluator.

2) More emphasis on offensive sets and movement instead of just relying on pick and roll/iso so much.

3) Improve how to make adjustments in game and on short turnarounds.

We're tied for the 6th longest active NCAA tournament streak.

Going into this year, we have the 8th most votes in the final AP poll since 2020.

We're tied for the most B1G regular season wins since 2020.

"Top 10 pay should mean Top 10 results!!!"

There they are. Those are the top 10 results. Read them again if you have to.

The problem is, too many people don't understand what top 10 looks like. It doesn't mean you finish in the top 10 or go to a Sweet 16 every year. It's about being consistently good, not occasionally great.

Only 5 schools have an active tourney streak as long as ours AND multiple second weekends. Five.

March Matters. And I will concede that 1 second weekend in 5 years is subpar (about 4 per decade is my goal) but even with our lack of post season success, we're still a top 10 program.

Respectfully to everyone and to Brad... none of the transfers/EU recruits we're brought in with much defensive prowess to begin with. If we expected KJ and Tomi to come in and be prepared for the level of physicallity needed for the college game we are either delusional or much too hopeful.

Love Morez and he is a vital piece that needs to come back but he is a 6'9" (maybe) undersized front court player who just needs more experience to leverage his body/position to play defense at a high level.

Other than the obvious portal needs (Veteran PG, Wing Scorer and back up Big) we desperately need Brad to bring in high major assistants who have a track record of defensive strategy.
KJ won’t be back, so no need to worry about that

Morez in no way is undersized, he out-rebounds anyone he is up against and was physically ready as a freshman, I expect him to be a monster next season with another year of development, his offensive game is the next stage of development- if he can add any midrange game he will be really good

I completely agree on the need to upgrade the assistants - money should be no hurdle here, I still have no idea why we didn’t get Yak this year when he was sitting at home

There you go, interjecting facts and sound reasoning into a Loyalty discussion.

Great points, btw.

Good point. You could see the difference in the offense when Morez was in - he'd rotate to the top of the key for the pick and pop, but he passed the ball 100% of his touches - he doesn't have the outside shot that Tomi does. If he can develop even a mid-range jumper his value to the team goes up significantly. Develop a three point shot that's even at 30%? We have a very strong front court with the addition of one more solid player.

O … Geoff … Mike B … Yak/Samarrippas … Tyler …

Hamer FIRED … Kwa demoted to what he was originally hired to do …

Ideally …
And another question…what do OA and Geoff contribute schematically or with the game plan? They have been let off the hook often this year as well imo

I've still yet to hear a legit reason from people regarding why Tyler needs to be demoted? We had a top 5 Kenpom offense last year and a top 15 offense this year.

If we're going to (justifiably IMO) lay the defensive scheme blame solely at Hamer's feet since he took "DC" responsibilities last year, then its only fair to give Tyler his due credit for orchestrating top offenses since he took over "OC" duties last year.

Because we don't run what people grew up watching and are accustomed to seeing from college teams so it's a bad offense or we don't run any offense. (Yes there are times the offense gets stagnant, but so does every offense)

Every coach has a voice and adds their opinions to the game plan/ scheme. Those 2 still have a majority of the scouts(OA had the UK scout for example). Geoff is an offensive minded guy though so he focus is on that side with Tyler.

Which Mike B are you referring to? Boynton? That would be a home run hire! I wouldn’t think possible to pry him away from Michigan given no coaching change there and he’s likely waiting for another HC opportunity- but if there is any chance of getting him we should spend OA money on him. Defense has been his hallmark. His teams have finished among the top-20 in KenPom’s defensive efficiency rankings in several years at OSU and he’s an elite recruiter on top of it

Yes, this... its contemporary...

Not only has our offense been one of the top attacks nationally the past 2 seasons, but it has been and will be a huge draw as far as recruits/xfers...

Why? Assistants leave schools all the time. Brad is his guy.....also we aren't giving anyone but OA money besides OA....but you don't have too. He will get compensated well if he comes here.

2 years in a row of statistically high quality offense and it’s still being questioned. Along with a major offensive scheme change midway through 22-23 that helped crawl that team to the tournament.

Yup, seems very illogical to me to think our offense is even near "bad". We designed an offense completely around 5-out 3 point shooting this season, we had really bad missed evaluations on some guys we brought in and their abilities to hit 3's at a high clip, but nevertheless we still finished T15 in offensive efficiency. Tyler aint the problem here.

If we could've just had a top 30 level defense, I think both last year and this year we run away with the conference title, are top 5 in the country and in the Final Four/Title game. Really need to get that side of the ball figured out. Even in the disastrous '23 season where I think we'd all agree we had guys playing for the name on the back of the jersey rather than the front, we still finished 26th in the country in Kenpom defense!! I seriously can't wrap my head around how bad on defense we've been these last two seasons, with the offenses we've fielded....really feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Regarding KJ that was coming into this year. Not beyond this year.

Respectfully Morez is undersized at 6'9". He is an excellent rebounder for his size and will only get better. Unless he grows he will still be undersized IMO.

Does not take anything away from how hard he plays.

I think I'm personally less concerned about scheme and more concerned about consistent execution.

Whatever Tyler is doing seems to have a high ceiling, but also a low floor because it doesn't really have an answer for when we shoot poorly or an opponent takes away the PnR.

The average offensive performance is high, but so is the standard deviation.
