I personally, do not understand why anyone would criticize this message boards “insiders”. I don’t expect them to 100% correct, however, they ARE usually correct regarding the info they provide. And to be honest, especially on threads like the previous Recruiting Thread, I just scroll through the comments until I come upon an “insiders” post and read only their comment. These guys obviously have connections, let’s give them a break.

i was following the last thread (as close as manageable. That thing was on fire). A couple of observations:

1. The delta between outsider perception of our bball program vs the “hardcore” fans must be as big as I’ve ever seen over my 20+ years of fandom for any sport. I don’t really know what that means, but it’s fascinating. I don’t think any outsider “expert” or even casual Illini fan thinks there are any major issues. While this board is basically melting down. Frankly, I think, to some degree, the outsider perception tends to be more accurate in these situations.

2. If I were JW, unless there’s a donor revolt going on, I’d just give BU all the rope he wants and see if he hangs himself. At this point, forcing him to make changes to his staff is probably a low probability of success proposition vs the other options. The next natural question then is what is the definition of success next season to help decide what you do after you gave him the rope. I think that’s one or more of 1) big ten regular season championship 2) big ten tourney champ or 3) sweet sixteen. But this is a debatable point.

3. I’m not surprised at all, but this new nil world is really killing my interest in college sports. The revenue sharing model will make it worse, imo. Any association with the school itself is becoming a clownish fallacy. I’m totally in support of athletes benefitting from their nil, but it has to be on a more sustainable structure.

To point #1, the outsiders all probably knew that Kentucky was as far as the Illini would go. We considered it a great draw--considering the circumstances. In the end, we were what most outsiders thought we were: a team that could make the second weekend, but probably would not.

Listening to Field of 68: the main host was "on the Illini bandwagon" once again after Illinois pummeled Indiana or Michigan (don't remember), and the analysist (a former coach I believe, bald head with southern draw) said he's tired of this up/down Illinois team, and they will not make it to the R2. He was right.

We’re obviously all here for the insider info, but they are people too. The faster people realize the insiders have their own allegiances, biases, and feelings, the better this board will be when it comes to the toxicity IYAM

Unless Stuemke and WhiteSoxSharp respond, I think we may be down to "one" insider at this point. Maybe DBIHead and Marvin can weigh in?

Ours was a collection of good plays, not a good team.
