If you would have told me at the beginning of the Transfer Portal opening that Illinois would miss on all its top targets and we would be begging Adam Miller of all people to comeback. I would have said the Transfer Portal was an absolute disaster. What are we even talking about ? People on here talking about Adam Miller like he’s Cooper Flagg . Adam Miller is mediocre at best after being in college for 6 years . Outside of Terrence Shannon Jr and Matthew Mayer . Brad hasn’t done much in the transfer portal
Sure Brad and staff have taken swings and missed on guys but the only guy we’ve really lost to the portal that hurt us is Hawkins & Morez. Incoming Kylan, Terrence, Mayer, Domask, Plummer, Grandison are all really good players. I’m disappointed we missed on Sellers but Adam is the kind of guy that you need to win a B10 title or make it to elite 8 again.

Terrence Shannon Jr .......KJ...... Adam Miller ❤️

Offer him a 10-15 MPG role. If it doesn't want that, let him go to DePaul/Millikin or any other host of schools he claims are interested in him.

The root of all evil. Hate that this is where we're at! When it becomes about getting the most money one loses sight (or at least takes their eye off the ball) of other more important things - loyalty, character, being a good teammate, etc. I know many are going to say....get what you can while you can, but I simply disagree.
I'm not against "a little money" for the players. A free education among other freebees is pretty good, then a little money on top makes for a heck of a college experience. Huge NIL figures and the portal are ruining the game.
Here's a thought. How about reserving the NIL money to give to the players after they graduate? For example, if you graduate from our university if you play a minimum number of years at our university we will give you $50k (doesn't have to be this amount - could be less could be more) to kick start your career. And for the record, $50k and no student loan debt would be awesome! I was making $20k/year, granted back in 2004, after graduating from the U of I. I worked my way up through the years and now live a good/financially comfortable life and that was starting from scratch and not making much money out of the gates the first few years. If you had given me $50k to start my career that would've been a game changer as far as buying a vehicle or a downpayment on your first home. Just an idea I haven't even thought through much yet, but the best players will go on to play overseas or in the NBA and will make their money. For those who aren't at that level if they stay and get their free degree they'll get a "bonus" upon graduation. This way we aren't making it all about money w/kids transfering left and right for the biggest bag. We get back to loyalty, continuity, 3-4 year players coming back year after year and quality education.
By the way, I hear 18-23 year olds are REALLY good with a lot of money!!! :cautious:
This way we are focusing on a good education and getting young people out into the workforce with a nice head start. I'm still here to cheer for my team, but I absolutely hate all this NIL and portal stuff. OK, I digress and will let people pick apart my idea (as I said, I haven't thought through it much, it just came to me so I threw it out there.) ILL
Let these young men get their money for the countless hours of work they've put in so they can take care of their self and their families. It’s just a game and we’re just fans.

Have we considered just printing more money?

Im 60% certain they removed trees south of Memorial Stadium to plant money trees.

Not a bad idea, except for one small problem. Not a single court in the nation will ever approve this scheme. Your solution to the NIL problem is to essentially abolish NIL. Not gonna happen.

People acting like they knew Domask was going to be the player he turned out to be 😂😂 . You never heard of Domask before he got to Illinois Domask was low rated transfer portal player. Brad even said himself he didn’t even want Domask his assistant had to convince him . Quincy was a good role player nothing special.

But Miller "never wanted to leave" and "bleeds O&B" though 😢

Where else will we find an undersized shooting guard with a career 38% FG and 34% 3FG stat line who people also pretend was a huge asset with his 39% FG/34% 3FG as a freshman?

No one is clamoring for Miller to return. How many times in the past 5 years have you heard "Golly, the program misses Adam Miller...". He sucked at Illinois. He sucked at LSU. He sucked at ASU. But but he was a top 40 high school recruit 5 years ago..... 🤣

The program is in a place where players the quality of Adam Miller should be getting offered a walk-on spot.

What's next? Checking to see if Curbelo has any remaining eligibility?

It's funny. Quite a few people have complained we don't win contested, high-cost recruitments. I feel like people are forgetting we beat out Kentucky and Arizona for Will just last year. He certainly wasn't cheap and it sure as heck was contested. Both Zona and UK thought they had him till the very end. I remember someone on here posted a video the night before he committed of two middle-aged Zona fans in goofy flat-brim hats just so darn sure Will was going there.

Every year people freak out. Every year we find solutions. We already have a solid core back, unlike last year. We have money. We have the sales pitch and two of the best assistants in the business out pitching it. The season is neither won nor lost on April 15th. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Let the process play out and we'll see where we are over the summer.
Our problem has not been recruiting since Brad is here. It is always game planning and coaching.

(1) There are wild takes on here about Miller being so trash that's he's effectively worthless, but...
(2) There are no responses from folks who want Miller to justify four years of underwhelming (at best) play. Responding with gifs and "lol" to people bringing up real stats about his shooting and negative offensive/defensive splits doesn't wish away his playing history.

He's a flawed player with a long track record and three different programs. He's only been a positive offensive/defensive split player when he played with two All-Americans. This is not a person you spend real money to acquire.

Just amazing isn't it..

You'd think Miller's jersey belonged in the rafters here with these takes.

Again, I'm not opposed to paying them some. But what about all of the others that put in hours of work in their craft that aren't in athletics? Why aren't they getting paid? These Universities have so much money as does the NCAA. All I'm saying is that paying millions of dollars to young people is ruining the game and those who are playing for the love of the game, I think they'd be very happy with a free education, other perks, and some money. Maybe kids don't play for the love of the game anymore - if so, that's said.
I do get it though from the athletes standpoint! If someone offered me a bag at that age, I'd take it. It's not the young athletes fault. I just think we screwed up by going this route.
There is no going back now. Poor leadership has made bad decisions and we're stuck with it!

What are you talking about? His 3 pt% is like 43% last year and very consistent.

He shot better this year but we are still talking about a guard with a career 38% FG shooting percentage. The previous attachment is steering folks too far.
Context is kind of important. His higher shooting percentage last season came with a reduction in shots. It's pretty clear that at LSU and his first season at ASU he was being asked to be "the guy," and as a result was taking a lot of contested, low quality shots. He led his team in 3pt attempts both of those seasons (and by a considerable margin at LSU). Last season he was given the freedom of not being the primary option, or even secondary, scoring option, and he flourished. He was 4th in 3pt attempts, despite having the best percentage on the team. It's pretty clear his role with us would be a lot more like his role last season, rather than the prior two seasons.

Did you see his stats last year? He was not on a very good team but a 43% 3 pt shooter doesn't just grow out of a tree. He was a very good 3 pt specialist and I be that's the role we are giving to him.
