Thanks for responding. Do you think that a player like Kennard Davis Jr, a Soph SG from SIU, would "cost" as much as Adam Miller in the portal?

Comparing their stats side-by-side:
Miller will be a 6th-year Senior, 6'3", 190 pounds, 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 44.9% on FGs, 42.9% on 3-pointers, 75.6% on FTs.
Davis will be a Junior, 6'6", 215 pounds, 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 45.5% on FGs, 37.6% on 3-pointers, 76.3% on FTs.

If the two players above "cost" about the same (and Davis might possibly cost less than Miller), I just don't understand why Adam Miller would be the preferred transfer for Illinois. That would seem like an overpay for Miller, one based on nostalgia perhaps. Or maybe the Illini should just sign BOTH players! Before they wait (and miss) on Sarr, Watkins, and Stojakovic. Davis and Miller together could maybe be added to the Illini roster for approximately $2M total. That's probably not even the opening bid for one of Sarr, Watkins, or Stojakovic.

And then the Illini could use their extra (saved!) money to sign another player (or two) from the transfer portal. I've been suggesting a good, experienced Point Guard as an additional need for the Illini, one who could sub in behind Boswell, but also be capable of running the team if Boz is out with injury or illness. Samage Teel of Indiana State is a possibility, and Isaiah Swope of St. Louis University is another. Or perhaps Amaree Abram of Louisiana Tech or Jestin Porter of Middle Tennessee.
How athletic is Davis? Can he stay in front of BigTen guards? Is he a lock down defender?

We'd still need a stud/playmaker. Andrej and Ace is a middle of the Big10 team all variables beiing equal.
You’re way too narrow viewed on this. Those guys plus Boswell plus tomi plus z/mirkovic is a top half big ten team at the floor.

That doesn’t even factor in Ty and he who must not be named, both of which can provide valuable minutes at a minimum.

I think if ace and Andrej are our only two other additions we’ll have a much higher floor than last years team. The ceiling won’t be as high, but the ceiling for last years team was literally top 5. I still think this hypothetical roster could be a top 15 team.

I would be very surprised if Pej is not an Illini. They've been working this one for months and he is the reason why we pivoted off of Sarr. Get it done Brad.
I'd take him over Sarr anyway, guy that can help us win now and the son of one of my favorite players ever. Dain, Miller, Andrej would be great.

Didn’t Tyler allegedly turn down an NBA coaching spot and a P5 role as well. I could be misremembering.

But keep preaching on about out of bounds plays. That has been beyond frustrating since Gentry left.
I think you're wrong here. The out of bounds plays this season were approaching "stellar". We made a ton of layups, most of them by Boswell. I noticed it all season long and made mention of it on numerous occasions.

Apologies if this has been mentioned but what is the Illinois tie/ sell to Pej? Just wondering what that “it” factor is that won’t just have him take the bigger offer when it inevitably comes.

Duke is OUT on Nate Ament … And they are looking to add …

Expect them to be involved with all of Watkins, Sarr and Andrej …
Not Illinois related but what’s up with Ament?

Edit: and I’m seeing Tennessee now

I think Andrej could be the stud/playmaker offensive guy.

Id like to see defensive guy next to him. Basically someone that can cover an opposing teams best player and maybe score in transition/knock down an open 3.

Sarr was never a priority? is that why hes going to another school for double the money despite the silent commitment we were told existed?
I'd frame it more as everyone knew Sarr was not realistic once word of his talent got out considering our second-tier NIL, so they had a more realistic target they were so afraid of someone else poaching that even some media people played along and refused to say his name.

Illinois needs to start building a culture. The bag chasers can do what they gotta do to get paid, but these aren't the guys you win championships with.

Florida returned 60 % of minutes from the prior year. Houston 75 % of minutes.

Florida's 9 man unit, a team whose coach was there for a lot shorter than Underwood

Clayton (Senior) - 2nd year in Florida
Martin (Super-Senior) - grad transfer last year in Florida
Richard (Senior) - 3rd year in Florida
Condon (Sophomore) - 2nd year in Florida
Haugh (Sophomore) - 2nd year in Florida
Aberdeen (Junior) - 3rd year in Florida
Chinyelu (Sophomore) - 1st year in Florida
Handlogten (Junior) - 2nd year in Florida

It's not that you aren't getting transfers, it's that for the most part, you can return the core of a team via multi-year players and have a veteran squad year to year.

Andrej & Ace …

If I had to guess right now …
That happens and I’d be very happy. Still badly need a defensive minded assistant coach, but one (or two) things at a time.

Ace, please pick up the block I orange basketball phone…
