Unsure if this has been approached...

Is there a possibility that Brad has Hamer because this is the style of defense he WANTS to play and he needs a lackey who will just run this Defense and doesn't have the chops or backbone to stand up to it. ((I.e. Chester Frazier 2023-24))

It's a fair question. In the constant choice of sacrificing one side of the ball for the other, Underwood has made it clear that offense is the priority (with lots of data supporting that notion). We can quibble about whether the defense should be better, but the player acquisition continues to say that they want elite offense at the expense of defense.

Also worth pointing out:

23-24 Illinois Defensive Rating = 80th (against the 40th best opposing offenses)
24-25 Illinois Defensive Rating = 40th (against the 6th best opposing offenses)

If this is the case, then I fear that the ceiling for the program (under Brad) will be much lower than what we are all hoping for. The best programs need to have a voice that will help right a "wrong" when things are not working. Brad has every right to select who he wants on his staff, but I truly hope the bolded is not the reasoning. If so, then I fear that Brad's seat will be very warm if the next season does not result in at least a S16 appearance.
I could be totally off and I hope I am. For a coach who routinely recruits over loyal players, it's hard to believe he wouldn't want to try and upgrade his staff unless something like what I mentioned was true.

Not aware of a raise - but thought his salary was higher.

All considering, Tyler is the best value assistant, IMO.

I'd have to go with Geoff at $367,500.00

I guess we will just have to score more than the other team then?

I’d love to make 200k with no accountability for the quality of work I’m doing. Anyone know where else I can get a job like that?

If I had a Hamer
I'd fire him in the morning
I'd fire him in the evening
All over this land...........................................................................................................................................I really really would..................

Which of our coaches would find a better job immediately if they were to be let go? Maybe OA? That doesn't sound like a Top 10 staff to me. I wouldn't even put it at a Top 25 staff and our expectations SURELY are higher than that?

I'm sure we can rehash the "Tyler was offered NBA assistant jobs" line again....He just WANTS to be around his dad soo much because Brad coached and was away a lot...As if his knee capping his sons possibility of a Future coaching career, makes up for his Past lack of being around.

Secondly, hasn't he played/coached for Brad the last 9 straight years?? I'm as understanding as anyone can be towards being away from your kids due to work. 4 deployments will do that to a guy....but I wouldn't hold my son's career back so I can feel like I'm making up for past transgressions.
You made up a while narrative about Brad and his kid, and then judge him by your own made up narrative? WTF?

Yeah that post was crazier than the Trae Taylor hat throw lol
What Brad doesn’t know is that Tyler has been kidnapped and replaced by his evil twin brother — a child he wasn’t aware he had fathered. Skyler, masquerading as Tyler, has usurped his brother’s spot on the coaching staff, elevating it to an ultra high offensive standard in a fiendish plot to ultimately destroy it through missed threes and excessive turnovers. He also blackmailed fellow assistant Zach Hamer — a coaching wiz — into installing a hapless defensive scheme called Drop Coverage. Meanwhile, mild mannered forward Ben Humrichous is really a secret agent, working undercover for Interpol, trying to expose Geoff Alexander’s international smuggling ring through his basketball-to-citizenship immigration program.

Chester leaving had zero to do with the defense and had to do with his feelings getting hurt that BU was always trying to recruit better players (which many happened to be better than the recruits Chester brought in). If Chester didn't want that to happen, he should have brought in better players.

That question is grounds for being marked as “unhinged”.

Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to become the Sacramento State men's basketball general manager, sources told ESPN.

It will be an unpaid, voluntary role for the Basketball Hall of Famer, whose son Shaqir O'Neal will play for Sacramento State under new coach Mike Bibby after transferring out of Florida A&M in late March to join the Hornets.

The minute Whitman fires Hamer he can no longer hold Underwood accountable for the results. If it works, then Underwood is permanently compromised because all the assistant coaches will be more concerned about what Whitman will do instead of what Brad will do. If it doesn’t work then Brad will just blame Whitman for the failure. That’s not what CEOs do.

Instead, Whitman must provide Underwood with the expectations of success and give both the authority and responsibility needed for Brad to achieve those ends. That way, success or failure is squarely on Brad. That’s what CEO’s do and that’s how Whitman appears to be handling business.”

Whitman wouldn’t be firing Hamer. Whitman would be telling Underwood to upgrade his staff by firing Hamer, and Underwood fires Hamer.

Who does everyone think is in charge in the DIA?
What’s the difference between?😂
