I think you could probably point to just about every Cubs player over the course of a 162 game schedule in the past two years and say, "Boy, if he didn't ___________ in game _____, the Cubs would have made the playoffs".

I was actually more concerned about his defense, or lack thereof, than his hitting. He's a DH now.

Just looking at the team though, only a few guys have even been key contributors every year since 2022 though. Happ and Suzuki and Hoerner basically are the long term holdovers of this consistent failure we've established here since we broke up the WS core.

Where are you going to put AB? Shaw will be called back soon and Lopez will be optioned. We are not going to bring AB up if he cannot play every day. No need to rush him.

Agreed. You need him to catch every day just in case he can improve enough to be servicable behind the plate. Then he becomes crazy valuable.

Shaw may be OPSing .943 but his quality of contact has not been fantastic. He's not elevating the ball well at all still and has a lot of seeing eye choppers through the infield (along with some decent liners down the 1B line.) The K:BB ratio is encouraging but he's still trying to find his power stroke again.

I say all this not to say that I'm worried about him, but I do think he'll be down there for longer than some might imagine.

Nicky's defense at 3B last night was at least very encouraging compared to what else we've been seeing there.

The Ballesteros thing is interesting. ILing JT doesn't make much sense because there's so no clear ABs for Bally then. Don't want to bring him up for occasional ABs. Almost gotta wait for a catcher or Outfield injury to open up C/DH at bats. Out of the box option is sliding Happ down to 3B again but I don't really think that's realistic at all. Busch has proven to be a bit of a reliability there earlier in his career as well.

Seiya 0-2 with 2 K's against the only elite Brewers pitcher... :p I'm sure he'll figure it out in his 3rd at bat

Yeah, I'd rather have the WS core right about now.

1B - Rizzo
2B - Baez
SS - Russell
3B - Bryant
LF - Schwarber
CF - Almora/Fowler
RF - Heyward
C - Contreras

Thank goodness that Jed had the good sense to pivot. Schwarber was really the only miss. I'd call it an extreme success compared to the debacle we'd have on our hands if he'd started offering LT contracts to those guys.

Seiya with a two run rbi single. Of course it probably doesn’t count as the Cubs were already up 7-2 and it therefore wasn’t “clutch.” The fact it was against the best bullpen in the National League makes it a fluke.

Or had a major league caliber hitter in the 3 spot in the lineup so his at bats weren’t +30% win probability for the opposition

The PCA AB was the key one of the game. He needs to change his mentality in a couple of areas and #1 is that the OBP needs to go up meaning....be more selective and accept walks. His speed isn't utilized when the OBP is .304 and he's WAY too aggressive in situations that require a controlled AB. Not one of those pitches that he swung at in the 10th were strikes. They all missed the zone by over a foot. He HAS to put the ball in play there. The two things that you couldn't have was a strikeout or a pop up.

That hurt and his inexperienced showed. That said, unless you're in the situation, you can't learn from it.
My bigger concern is that the tape on him is out and he's going to stop seeing strikes until he proves he can lay off bad pitches and understand that him getting on base, any way possible, is the most important thing. A walk is as good as a double with him.

Tough loss, but you your point.....Pressley should be DFA'd
