Great start for Jackson, currently in the lead at -5. Hopefully a sign of good things to come!

Illini are all on the back nine, currently in the lead, Texas Tech and Troy are two strokes back.

You also need to factor in they doubled the length of the ruff and made the greens faster.

I’ve played there many times in those conditions before yes. It generally makes me play a bit worse than normal for sure. I played Atkins numerous times before and after tournaments.

After a couple more birdies by max and Jackson were at -8! 4 strokes ahead of 2nd playing great. Ethan just made his first birdie too hopefully he can finish strong and build some confidence for the next 2 days.

Could Illinois be the only team under par by days end?

What is up with the 17th hole. 244 yard par 3 that is playing like a par 4. If Illinois can get in around -6 that would be great!

This hole has always been a problem. In the past 2 Illini tournaments at Atkins they’d had cold weather and tons of wind and they’ve moved this hole up like 20-30 yards to make it easier. Still at 210-220 it’s hard but I saw Tommy kuhl stick one to about 3 feet for a birdie one time. Not sure why they try and make it play like this. You can’t even run a ball up because the green is sloped both ways and if you go over the green you’re in tons of trouble. It’s brutal basically need an up and down to make par on days like this.

A little surprised at the no eagles day 1 for Illinois with how well we are playing. Lots of them available here none of the par 5s are particularly hard. The par 3s and some of the par 4s though very tough.

I’m guessing wind is too. I almost always get better golfing conditions at Atkins in the morning compared to the afternoon. Although I think tomorrow we tee off last.

That’s a course record for Jackson wow! Beating out Ryan’s -7 first round from last year. I still think ADDCs -5? I think round from the first year they had the tournament is the most impressive. It was like 40 degrees 20-30+ mph winds and some freezing rain.

How many rounds are there in this qualifier? And I think that the top 6 advance, right?

Just two of our guys left on the course --- and all four of their remaining holes will count.

I don't think any other schools will be -10 today.
