IMO, Ben became the whipping boy in many fans' eyes because of the Northwestern (in Evanston) game. It felt like he was the main reason we lost and I never looked at him quite the same after that. Also, our expectations were probably higher than they should have been after some NBA scout mentioned him as a prospect. Marcus Domask's transition from MVC to Big 10 also gave us false hope that his game would transfer better than it did. I'm not unhappy he is back in a less crucial role, and am hoping for a good bounce back year.

Real Walter Sobchak vibes going on.

Ben was fine from 3. Bad from 2. Improved defense and rebounding throughout the year. Obviously he was really good at not turning the ball over.

Honestly, I blame Brad for locking up this roster too early so we can't complain about missing on players, leaving us to argue about Ben and how we should properly weight his turnovers.

Ben wasn't a total bum. He's the guy who bears the brunt of all our shortcomings from last season. It's unfair, I agree. I expect improvements in efficiency with a reduced workload and reduced responsibilities. I look forward to him being able to have a comeback type season.

Because he not a ball handler. Not hard to understand. Great he didn't turn it over when he he just had to do a small hand off to a guy cutting in front of him and not actually make precision pass (like tomi, kj, and will were asked to do) .

He came here to be the starting 4 because he could shoot and didn't do that. He didn't even seem like he could get his shot off in many games, most games against good competition because he has a solid release. He literally shot us out of several wins costing us seeding..Plus he couldn't rebound at all despite being 6'9.

Ben averaged 3.8 reb per game last year. 7th on the team despite being 6-9 and 5th in minutes. He was not comfortable last year with his role and level of competition, and it showed. 1 putback does not make him a good rebounder.
Hopefully he will be better next season playing ~12-15 mpg and shooting ~40% from 3 while trying hard on defense and having a few rebounds bounce to him.
That would be wonderful.

Seemed to me that there were a handful of vocal detractors once the early season success was over and players got ill. Agree there's often over-optimism after a guy like Domask makes us collectively forget that the roster is never a sure thing and has hits and misses. KJ got plenty of it too with his incredible potential, but freshman TOs. The bench wasn't as deep as we'd hoped either. The arc of the season was almost the opposite of what we'd talked ourselves into --dangerous in March, but rough getting there.

One thing I like about this roster is how there seems to be more long-term construction. We have some guys IMO that could be developed and retained for better continuity. We live in a world of high turnover, so managing that more thoughtfully could be a nice advantage. I hope the E8 wasn't a fluke and that the staff gets better at peaking towards the post-season. TSJ had another gear in that run, but imagine if the whole team has that urgency. To me that's both on the player and the coaches.

NW was definitely the first. Nebraska was also really brutal. Same with Duke. Tennessee wasnt great outside of that putback dunk. From a neutral perspective, for good or bad, I think the fan's main deal was always why he played so much (30+ minutes, often ahead of guys like Will/Dra/Tre/Morez) when he wasn't at his best and turning in very insufficient outings in our losses. He had some really good outings in some of the wins (Oregon, Michigan, Purdue), but his poor play/shooting in the losses seem to really rub people the wrong way. Brad's idea was probably understandable in the fact he wanted floor spacing and shooting; it just didn't always work out that way and a guy like Ben gives you very little offensively outside of that catch and shoot 3 ball.

Not trying to start a politics discussion here, but it's objective reality. Is Trump's pausing of student visa interviews going to impact any of our new guys being able to come over in a timely manner?

He was 1st or 3rd (depending on source, qualification threshold) in the B1G including all players, high usage, low usage, everyone in turnover rate

Even with some shooting woes, he shot better than the power conference average of 33.6%

I made no argument regarding rebounding, he's not a plus rebounder and everyone knows that

You can't say even one positive thing about Ben Humrichous or you will get murdered on here, goodness
Well because he doesn’t deserve it. If you watched all games it was obvious this TO “stat” is pointless. When he did have the ball, if he was wide open, he immediately threw up a 3 that wildly missed on most occasions. If he was guarded, he would pass out with minimal dribbling.
