Evanmiya favors Kylan a bit(1.09 dbpr vs .91). Now there is a lot of noise to those metrics but they suggest that Ty is a similarly capable defender to Kylan but also brings more size and versatility with his ability to guard multiple positions.

Now I'm not saying this is a negative against Kylan but this forum is vastly overrating his defensive ability. He's an above average defender that seems to take pride in his defense but I also watched him get absolutely cooked by Claude. Kylan isn't some all defensive team lockdown defender like say Jamal Shead was or even Trent Frazier.

I had another comment above but in a vacuum I don't think Ty is irreplaceable but looking at the current roster composition there is really nobody that can replace the things he can do defensively and the only other player that has both size and the foot speed to guard on the perimeter is Stojakovic.

Kylan is the best 6"2 or below defender Brad has had in his time here. at worst second.

Still my point was entirely about defensive versatility and being able to guard bigger wings on the perimeter. Who guards AJ Dybansta if we end up playing BYU? Or Boozer for Duke?

College is full of big guards and wings that handle the ball now and it's not going to be pretty if you're relying on Kylan to guard guys 5-6 inches taller than him(you're not setting Kylan up for success in that situation).

I'd say Mirkovic for Boozer.

Ty for Dybantsa but that's no longer an option. Likely Ben in all honesty.

I agree. We are ridiculously unathletic from a run-jump perspective. I think we will get abused by quick, athletic teams. I'd bet on a loss in the second round again this year.

We play around with this term "athletic" too much. We also play around with metrics too much. Trust your eyes.

KJ was great - for a freshman.

Over the last 3 months of the year though he averaged 14 pts, 4 assists, and 4 to's on 40% shooting. It was a (sometimes very ugly) step back from his 16/5/4/48% line from November and December.

Again, impressive for a freshman but it wouldn't surprise me if Boswell average 14+ points, 4 assists, and fewer than 4 turnovers this year. In fact, over his last 3 months, Kylan averaged 14/3/3/47%.

(Using KB here since MP is an unknown and frankly, I'd like to see us roll with KB as our primary ball handler)

Overall, I think the trio of Boswell, Tomi, and Andrej along with actually having a little continuity gives us a pretty high floor this year. Although, I'm not seeing a top 10, Final Four type of team.

i think its close, but a piece short. another star level guy (like Dame Sarr) would no doubt elevate to that level but even a solid Ty replacement would go long ways.

Unless Brandon Lee surprises, I’m concerned about our depth at 1-3 without Ty. The starters look great, but we’ve got Lee and Davis presumably having to fill 30 minutes off the bench. What happens when one of those 5 gets hurt or we have foul trouble.

Yes. Dennis Johnson was all defensive team guard just to name one example. Danny Ainge was another very athletic guard. They brought Cedric Maxwell off the bench as well who was a great athlete.

More importantly looking at the current roster construction. Ty and Stojakovic are the only two guys with size and any ability to guard wings on the perimeter. Stojakovic should be the focal point offensively and primary scorer so I don't know if you necessarily want him chasing the opposing teams best perimeter wing all game.

Boswell is only 6'2, Petrovic is listed at 6'3 but doesn't look that big and defense is a question mark though he does look fairly quick, neither Davis or Humrichous have the foot speed necessary.

I don't think it would be a stretch to say Ty is the best and most versatile defender on the roster. He is a huge loss and there doesn't really seem to be a guy with the traits to replace him. I don't want to be overly negative but without Ty this years team looks more like an Iowa team than an actual contender imo.

I’d agree “most versatile defender” but probably not “best”. I agree with almost everything else. You get 6/8 of a like from me. 😆

I get the Iowa comment…to a point. But I think we’ll be slightly better than that.

When did we add our last roster spot last season? Wasn't it late July? I seriously expect we add a backcourt guy if they are talented and available.
I know someone posted some Euro kid recently but not sure if we are in on him.
