Yeah... what are we doing? I know there are 15 scholarships now, but this dude will play here 3 years then transfer with nothing to show for it. Just a practice body.
truly puzzled. i searched this site for "landon davis" and nothing came up. i don't follow recruiting super closely, but was he brought up before or on any insiders' radar?

There are so many moving parts every offseason now with the TP and NIL that I don't think worrying about not having schollies for big boys is worth it. Hope we got a late bloomer and if we didn't then it will work itself out.

We’ve got 15 scholarships. Assuming he isn’t taking a ton of money away from others, we aren’t playing 15 kids. Getting a warm decent practice body at minimum doesn’t seem all that bad.

Wouldn’t be complaining if that’s how it was sold to me …

And if the kid was only getting a scholarship …

Would have taken a lot of guys before him …

ZERO high major offers …
Yeah, I don't necessarily love this move either, and I think with a guy like this you have time and can at least wait until closer to signing day.

But doesn't this criticism also apply to Ethan Brown? He also had zero high major offers. And people on here seemed excited about that one (let the record reflect, I pointed out his lack of high major offers at the time).

I think think that’s the only model to have though.

Illinois will end up paying big money for 8-9 guys that actually play. And then spend nothing on 10-15.

For a basketball team, it makes very little sense to spend money on roster spots 10 thru 15.

This guy and Ethan Brown are probably among the few guys they have found in 2026 that are willing to come to Illinois for nothing. Bc most guys who want to make money playing college ball are either looking to get it right out of HS, or are going to go play big minutes at midmajor hoping to transfer up down the line.

Bingo … No reason to take the Davis kid now … Go get him in April of 2026 …

Fair take on Brown regarding HM interest … Especially because not everything gets out to the public …

I just know of at least 5 High Majors that were ready to offer Brown but got told he’s going to Illinois so don’t bother …

They ain’t coming to Illinois for nothing … That’s part of my issue with taking Davis …

Brown I see the potential … I like the kid …

Davis I don’t see the potential to be anything more than a practice player like Jakstys … And I question is he even going to be better than Jakstys … Do we need 2 of Jakstys …

So why are we taking him now ? And why are we promising him money ?
