I 100% think a move should be made. Part of the problem also is Luke taking sacks and play callings. What’s scary is how little players have developed and how bad they’ve been at evaluating recruits. We really miss having Josh McCray in pass pro. All 3 backs we have are very bad blockers.

This week's film study shows a complete lack of both technique and awareness for a lot of people involved. Gesky comes out of this as the only one unscathed. Henderson and Feagin both look lost.

Just when I had started to get the bad taste out of my mouth and began feeling more optimistic that Indiana was a 'one off'...

Total lack of fundamentals...playing straight up, line isn't communicating nor passing off rushers worth a darn. This isn't getting fixed in a game week of practice. I'm sorry, the discipline wasn't instilled in the off-season if you are popping straight up

USC- A lot
Illinois- A little

The state of the program could be drastically different after Saturday.

Scenario 1: Illinois beats USC and Indiana beats Iowa by 40. The optimism is back and maybe we can still go 10-2.

Scenario 2: USC beats us by 14+ and Iowa plays Indiana close. Illinois is a below average B10 program.

The crowd on Saturday is going to be anxious. Beat USC and they will be in relief and a frenzy. Play poorly and might hear some boos which is hard to believe given where we were 4 days ago.
for the latter, I might be sad or exasperated, and might curse (more than a little), but in 40+ years I've never boo'd our teams - I've boo'd the refs many times ...

Luke has to learn to throw it away because he is terrible about hanging on to the ball too long. Maybe they could come up with some drills for him where he has to throw the ball away in 1-2 seconds while scrambling in a way that he would not get intentional grounding called. Not always gonna get 5 seconds to throw it like in practice.

agree with you (esp when hes nearing the sideline, throw it away!!!!) but lunney doesn't always help him.

Im not sure if we have a hot route strategy for zero blitz on third down, we don't consistently use RB pass (swing, wheel) out of the backfield, we dont target TEs on high prob short routes, we don't run (or execute) the screen game well.

the TE middle screen Indinia ran against us was a thing of beauty, no reason we cant utilize Rusk in that role. maybe Valentine has rock fists but man id love to see him involved in the pass game.

im not a coach and don't sleep at a holiday inn but there are some basic tools we're not employing (at least successfully) to keep defenses honest

You have to practice like you play. The fact that Luke is not throwing it away tells me there are no consequences for hanging on too long in practice. It should be automatic.

Well Luke is finding pressure very quickly… trying to make a play! When he does we are more than impressed! Holds too long and takes and sack he is criticized! How many interceptions this year? Zero!
Give him a little time in the pocket… he will thread the needle.
Last year very few interceptions!

He does hold the ball long and takes sacks but some of those long holds have resulted in big plays! Kind of his play style. Love it… hate it?

Maybe folks should back the f##k off and watch the games and relax a bit…he ain’t perfect but he is a damn good QB…. and he is what we have ( which is a good thing btw)…Anyone thinks they can do better… step right up😂 Rounds are on me!

There sure are a lot of glass half empty people here… so it seems. Try pouring a little more in the glass! Carry on!

Time will tell the tale but what I take from yesterday is we have a coach who has gotten his players to fully buy in to what he is selling. You don’t have an utter collapse and meltdown one week and respond so well the next week if the coaching isn’t completely in sync with the roster. That is a very good sign for the health of the program long term. As well as short term.

According to GROK, Illinois losing to Indianna and beating USC. "This turnaround fits the rare rebound pattern we discussed earlier: a 50+ point loss followed immediately by a win over a ranked opponent. Illinois becomes the first FBS team in the modern era (post-1978) to achieve exactly this, turning a humiliating defeat into a signature ranked victory just seven days later"

What were the 3 prior to last year?

The Penn St overtime game (Bret)

Wisconsin upset (Lovie)

When we beat Arizona State in that year we went 6-0 then 0-6 (Zook)?

From what I can find there was actually more than 3 (possibly?):

-2010 vs. #25 Northwestern at Wrigley
-2011 vs. #22 Arizona State
-2019 vs. #6 Wisconsin
-2021 at #7 Penn State and #20 Minnesota

^^ best I can tell yes this is correct. AP Poll rankings of the teams at the time the game was played-

2011 vs #22 Arizona State (W 17-14)
2019 vs #6 Wisconsin (W 24-23)
2021 at #7 Penn State (W 20-18 9OT)
