I'm thinking 20-21 range . . . Losing to #1 shouldn't cause much of a fall. ScuM on the other hand probably should drop out of the rankings after losing to unranked USC . . .

Indiana has more really good wins than anyone else. Right now they are 1 IMO.
I can get behind this. They are playing great football right now. I was very impressed with their defense in the 4th qtr last night.
Will they continue to perform as well with all eyes on them?

Indiana has 1 really good win. Illinois will be unranked. If you count Illinois for them, you have to give credit for Ohio St beating #1 Texas. Can't do it though.

IMO top 5 should be Indiana, Ohio State, Miami, Texas Tech, TAMU in that order 🤷‍♀️.

USC also should be ranked.
I agree with the top 5 but would switch a few around. I think it'll be like 1. Ohio State, 2. Miami, 3. Indiana (I hate this to my core!!!), 4. Texas A&M (SEC bias), 5. Texas Tech.

I hope that we stay in the top 25, I suspect that we will be around 23.

Okay... going for broke here. This is my entire projected AP top 25. This is base on some math and personal preferences where I tried to be realistic while also removing the likelihood that some teams will drop like crazy or rise like crazy just because of their team name. Personally, I think Indiana moves up to #3, Illinois drops to mid 20's. I think Indiana being #2 or #3 is justified, whereas I think Illinois being any lower that #20 is a "because they're Illinois" vote. Our wins are better than many other teams' wins that will be in top 20, and our losses at this point have to be the best losses in the country.

I look forward to seeing how off this is to reality in a couple hours...

They won’t take away #1 from OSU with a Top 25 road win.

But Indinia has to be #2, and I’m curious what the point difference will be (AP).
Cignetti’s instant success there is unprecedented . yea, not possible without transfer portal and NIL , big still unbelievable considering IU past and all the other competition for decent players

I really can’t get my arms around his success .

Coaches Poll- Illinois drops 8 spots to #25, after losing to #1 and #3

I’m not too upset about dropping to 25, but for Texas to jump back to 17 and USC to be ranked higher than us just highlites the logo bias.

I mean, last week IL and USC both had 1 loss, but we were ranked 17 and USC was unranked.

We came into the season in the 30s in the metrics yet were ranked #12 in the AP poll. USC was in the teens in the metrics and began the season unranked in the AP poll.

At least we’re the third highest two-loss team. I think we’ll just steadily rise from here. The Washington game looms large, though - will have a big impact on which bowl we get.

Happier with scUM dropping out than sad about dropping to #25 button....

We have 2 weeks to prepare for Washington and get healthy.

I wonder if we will travel a day or two earlier than usual.

Just sharing opinions! I think this is too optimistic on the bottom for everything breaking Illinois' way.

- Ohio State covered the spread against Illinois
- Oklahoma would have one loss, to the new #15 team in the country, and would fall 15 spots
- Cincy only moves up one spot in a win
- South Florida beats one of the best G5 teams, and 33rd on the AP poll, and doesn't move up the rankings
- Utah moves up six spots, which is a lot, but four teams right ahead of them lost, after beating a ranked team
- Nebraska stays unranked

Maybe one or two of those things happened, but I can't see all of those things.

I agree with all of this. That’s why I proceed it by saying it’s based more on math than it is on reality. There is no world in which USC should ever be ranked higher than Illinois. There’s no world in which Oklahoma should be ranked higher than Texas. We have literal, on field results for both of those match ups. But I know voters won’t see it that way…

Honestly… there’s a real reality that if you’re basing things purely off of who you’ve beat/lost to and who you’ve beat/lost to has beat/lost to (and so on), Illinois has a top 10 resume.

It’s the difference between the “eye test”, actual on field results, and voting bias (and I don’t mean that as a negative per se).

I just don’t understand the massive drops for losing to a ranked team. It’s happening a lot more the last few years than in the past. I could understand if we didn’t have other wins but come on.
What’s even more strange is the B1G standings right now. I wouldn’t even look at it tbh. We are now 12th and Northwestern and UCLA have a better B1G record than us. Understandable that our strength of schedule is obviously stronger than both of their’s but you can’t tell me that both of those teams have more talent on their roster than Illinois?

We beat USC at home, in a tight game. Pollsters believe in a neutral site game we'd lose to them. Pretty simple.
But on a neutral field, Oklahoma lost to Texas. Why isn't Oklahoma ranked lower than Texas (and yes, they should be).
